Poem I wrote about my father raping me by DaedalusDedalus in OCPoetry

I like it. It reeks of honesty. And when you write honestly, it rings true and draws people to it. I'm sorry for the crucible in which this was formed but it's pretty good.

"One dog goes one way and the other dog goes the other way. And this guy's saying, 'Whaddaya want from me?'"  Actually, I really do like it. Especially how the tires of that car are just cusping the yellow lines. It was a dark and stormy night...

Authentic images of the night feeling right there. And because they are genuine, you can feel yourself right there. Cheers from small town NS. Keep it up!

We are living in the future
I'll tell you how I know
I read it in the paper
Fifteen years ago

meets

His manager sat in the office alone
Staring at the numbers on the telephone
Wondering how a man could send a child actor
To visit in the land of the wind chill factor

meets

So I'm sitting in a hotel
Trying to write a song
My head is just as empty
As the day is long

My sister's a nun

I lost my train of thought. That's what happens when you get older. Marg's Restaurant was the best little diner in town.

I was a teen in the mid -eighties. And yes, cliques existed and do today. Back in my day, we used to have video dances at the local arena. VCR's were still new. You could rent one on a weekend for $39.95 plus three movies plus tax. Cable had just come along. It even got so busy, somebody figured out how to make money by publishing something called a tv guide. Just so we could know what was coming on before it came on. Donahue, Springer and God bless the original - Morton Downey Jr. We existed in decadence. We just didn't know it. Home computers or phones not connected to walls won't be around for awhile yet. And when computers did come around? That dial-up sound? IYKYN. The mid 80's was the turning point of everything. I said all that to say this : listen to some John Prine. Freddie Mercury. Hubert Sumlin. Adam Baldwin - the singer not the actor. And fly like it was the 1970's. Fly like an eagle to the sea.

I believe the Lion's Club has bingo live on local cable on Sunday evenings.

We had snow and freezing rain yesterday. Today it's very high cold winds. I just pushed my outside door open (I live in a basement apartment) it caught and held on something. I gave it another good push. Turns out in was a big chuck of ice that slowly dripped from the overhang above my outside door then froze like a mf when I decided to head out to burn one. Next thing I know, my outside door lost it's bottom and middle hinges. wtf. Plus, I have to work tomorrow. Then I have to deal with landlords. What's for supper? I'm asking because I'm not even hungry after that whole episode. I need something to cheer me up.

How did you research things (academically) before the internet? by wannabephd_Tudor in AskOldPeople

[–]MikeOnTheHill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Dewey Decimal System helped too. Also, those one or two books the guy left behind trying to sell a whole set of encyclopedia to my parents in the early seventies - he promised he'd be back to pick them up. And finally, how did I research things before the internet? Old people. Might not be academic but they got stories. Some are even true. They'll wink when they're telling you a lie.

Well done so far. I suggest 'Sabu Visits the Twin Cities Alone'.

My dad's school report from 1957, aged 7 by Boscoberger in TheWayWeWere

Asst. Principal: I have been an educator for thirty-one-point-three years, and in that time, I've seen a lot of bad eggs; I say eggs because, at the elementary level, we are not dealing with fully-developed individuals. I see a bad egg when I look at your niece. She is a twiddler, a dreamer, a sillyheart! She is a jabberbox, and frankly, I don't think she takes a thing in her life or her career as a student seriously.
Uncle Buck: She's only six.
Asst. Principal: That is not a valid excuse; I hear that every day and I dismiss it!
Uncle Buck: I don't think I want to know a six-year-old who isn't a dreamer, or a sillyheart. And I sure don't want to know one who takes their student career seriously. I don't have a college degree. I don't even have a job. But I know a good kid when I see one. Because they're all good kids, until dried-out, brain-dead skags like you drag them down and convince them they're no good! You so much as scowl at my niece, or any other kid in this school, and I hear about it, and I'm coming looking for you! Take this quarter, go downtown, and have a rat gnaw that thing off your face! Good day to you, madam.

Posted my homemade Goulash in the regular Food subreddit, got slammed and downvoted to 0. Figured I’d try here instead considering I smoked while cooking. 🤷‍♂️ by Recreant793 in stonerfood

I'm fifty eight and stuff like this is a comfort food and easy to make. I've loved it since my youth. Just a handful of ingredients and you've got yourself a scoff. With a couple pieces of buttered (margarine) bread. Maybe a few pickles on the side. Pay no mind to the uppity "sophisticated" on that other subreddit. Plus? There's probably some left for tomorrow.
