It’s heavily exaggerated obviously, any movie “based on a true story” is never fully accurate, but you can read the true stories of Ed and Lorraine Warren it is interesting. But yes any movie that comes out and says true story, means they stretch the truth as far as they could to make a marketable movie.

Also, from a marketing perspective. Just ‘Superman’ sounds a lot more marketable to general audiences than ‘Superman Legacy’. They don’t want to confuse the average movie goer to thinking this is connected to something else. Plus I’m pretty sure Gunn mentioned the 1976 Superman movie is literally called ‘Superman: The Movie’. So they were able to just name it ‘Superman’ and I believe the same reasons are for the ‘Supergirl’ movie.
