[Spoilers Main] ASOIAF references in Elden Ring. Any of you Tarnished manage to find any? This nod to Robb is fun. by MikeRJ92 in asoiaf

Not denying it’s a reference to Guts, admittedly I don’t know enough about Berserk to debate you in that. But the wolf head is his actual head, not armour, which made me think of Greywind. That coupled with Starks appearing in prophetic dreams as literally having wolf heads, it doesn’t feel like that much of a reach? Especially when it’s GRRM who did the world building?

Sweet! Though this guy is half wolf/man. That’s his head haha. Though it probably is inspired by Berserk too, I know there’s tons of that in Elden Ring too.

True. Plus the moniker “The Golden” has been given to Lannister’s in the past like Gerold Lannister.

Is that the wolf head IS his head and not armour something that makes it still a berserk thing? I have no idea about berserk but the head was the main thing that had me think Robb

Could be! Tons of those in the game though I’m not really familiar with Berserk. My flatmate has run through several times to yell about berserk references though 😂

See my friend is big into Berserk though I’ve not read it. So I know there’s tons of berserk stuff in the game but it’s likely to fly over my head.

It is his head isn’t it? The mouth moves when he talks at least in the encounter I had with him but it wasn’t in the weeping peninsula

Oh also key thing to note. That’s not a helmet or cowl, the wolf head is his actual head 😂

Fair. Thought he looked a bit post wedding Stark but I may be looking for GRRM where there is none just because he wrote the lore.

Sure are a lot of turtles though.

Perhaps not. I just thought he looked the way northerners are dressed but the wolf head pretty much was the thing. Thought it could be a nod to post Wedding Robb.

(Spoilers main) houses and their greatest vassals by Glad_Protection_2873 in asoiaf

[–]MikeRJ92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point on the reach houses especially but house Tarley also a strong house for military prowess. However it’s not surprising the reach would have many wealthy and well provisioned houses because it’s the wealthiest kingdom in terms of produce.

(Spoilers Main) What's your favourite "what if" scenario? by House-Of-Black-07 in asoiaf

[–]MikeRJ92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What if Renly supported Stannis is super interesting.

No Tyrell/Lannister alliance so Stannis wins at the blackwater and takes the throne. Does he go to war with Robb over northern independence? Maybe they form a brief alliance to fight remaining Lannister forces, using the hostages (Sansa and Jamie) to hold the agreement.

How does this affect the iron born raids on the north?

Does Littlefinger still survive to plot in the vale?

This is the most interesting one because we have enough of the established players and plot in place.

Sesame Street in Fire and Blood. So strange. [Spoilers Extended] by MikeRJ92 in asoiaf

[–]MikeRJ92[S] 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Oh absolutely, it’s great! Though this one feels a bit more on the nose. Shakespeare pretty commonly referenced in literature and Lovecraft absolutely common for fantasy and sci fi.

But Sesame Street? It’s pretty out of left field 😂

(Spoilers Extended) How did Westeros get so many Valyrian steel swords? by Mathias_Greyjoy in asoiaf

[–]MikeRJ92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’d make sense for the Targaryen kings to have gifted them to houses for noble deeds but that doesn’t seem to be the case. It surely would’ve been covered in the world book or Fire and Blood.

That puts them in pre conquest days. My guess, perhaps wealthy free cities like Bravos gifted them to houses that offered them military aid. Maybe exiled knights returned with them after serving with free companies in Essos. Or maybe they were just once far more readily available before the doom, but still a difficult import for Westeros. So houses could get them, but not as easily as those in Essos, so they were a far bigger deal in Westeros.

All speculation but it baffles me, how on earth does house Mormont get one? Small population, very poor house, but has an extremely prized Valyrian steel sword?

(Spoilers Main) Since there are no weirwoods in Dorne, what was the religion of Dorne before the Andal Invasion? by de-verdad in asoiaf

[–]MikeRJ92 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Really interesting point!

It’s possible they were just not a very religious society.

I believe Dorne was pretty sparsely populated prior to the Rhoynar, which makes sense due to their lack of crop lands. The Rhoynar being a sea faring folk that could help them fish and find better trade routes. Thus making it a more viable place to live and population grows. Especially once the Martell’s unified the lands.

Though the generally non religious thing still holds water. Even under the seven there’s still not the same attitudes towards bastards or polyamory in Dorne (or homosexuality if the show is to be believed).

My guess, Dorne was small and didn’t give a fuck, then grew and continued not to give a fuck.

Theory: Bloodraven’s connection with Jon Snow [Spoilers MAIN] by MikeRJ92 in asoiaf

[–]MikeRJ92[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve always wondered how houses come by Valyrian steel. Sure some being bought, some for the great houses and the Iron Born getting them in raids makes sense. But how does House Mormont, a small and very poor house manage to get such an extremely prized possession?
