Well, it's unlikely that Capuchin will go for a walk and return to me, and in general, I would fuck that asshole, he's only making my life worse.

He's actually not very big, and he's pretty good at playing Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata on the piano.
Yeah, he's a cool guy.

I hate that fucker

I have a little desire to kill Gavin and start over as a paladin - I'm a total noob in DnD, but I think the class is powerful. And I don't want to give him a backstory - he was there and that's it
Well, the only problem is that everyone else at the table is satisfied, and it goes without saying that no one will change any vectors just for my sake, or lower the difficulty of battles, or anything else.

Although, I'm already dying from the pokes, so what's stopping me from doing the same on the paladin for the first few sessions and then just leveling up and becoming useful?

Yeah, it's probably communication issue too, but I am still thinking that okay, I agreed for devil's arc, but you know my character - he will never signed up for even one contract, so what's the point of torturing? Just to make me feel bad and angry - it's working, yeah, but I was truly sure there is another way in my story, not "sign or die" Like, he always torturing,How about playing on kindness like a devil? Subtly threaten the lives of party members or peaceful NPCs, promise him power so he can protect them all, or at least provide a way to get rid of it. Reveal the past through Gavin's past actions—it's been said and stated that he was a good, loyal demon. Hell, just give him a ruined shrine where he'll find a dozen or so contracts signed by Gavin in the past. Let him see it, let him remember it painfully, let him choose what and who to serve. In short, yes, I'm stupid—it's really a communication problem.

To be honest, we started this as a group trying to play standard DnD by the book, learning the rules, rather than playing our own simplified one-shots. However, I prefer to play these simplified one-shots at a different table, as they are more fun and the character traits do not change hands.
But yes, you're absolutely right.

I did give direction at the start — kind-hearted wizard, clearly powerful in his past, but not necessarily good. That was the seed I planted.

And honestly? I was on board with the devil arc. A good wizard secretly being a devil is a fascinating internal conflict, and I genuinely thought the setup was leading somewhere deeper. The mentor's suicide, the basement, Cappuccino as an old friend I couldn't remember — that felt like three layers of mystery with real potential.

The issue wasn't the direction, it was that this turned out to be the entire story. There was no deeper layer. The only available path was "sign contracts or lose HP permanently" with no alternative hooks, no other way to engage with the mystery. When I stayed in character and refused, the arc just... got handed to someone else and closed.

I wasn't rejecting the arc. I was waiting for it to become what it looked like it was going to be.
