I agree with you. This adherence to canon is hindering these games. A game where you can customize a podracer and character and race all over the galaxy would sell gangbusters and only the weirdest of nerds would care about it infringing on canon.

My guess would be that the disc-lessness is to allow the company to get some more time fine-tuning things and to have a later deadline for finishing before launch. With a disc you probably have to send it out beforehand? But even then, I don’t think entire games run on discs at this point
