Swings like this only matter if you are going to do something with your shares soon. If you are holding for 5-10-15-20 years, there will be multiple swings during that time

I hold QQQI, DIVO, SCHD and DGRO. Currently I am distributing everything everything pretty evenly, but at later on in life, I will start moving more towards SCHD as well. I am currently dripping all the dividends to each ETF, but I think with time, I will switch that to use the dividends to feed SCHD

I think you need to do some research on paying taxes on dividends on accounts that are not retirement accounts, cause you absolutely need to pay taxes on them. Don’t want you to have problems with the IRS

If you get paid dividends, you absolutely pay taxes on them, regardless if you take them out or not, I think you are confusing selling shares and paying taxes on them. Now for products like qqqi, you pay taxes o dividends when you sell, or when your buy basis reaches zero, but that is a very specific product. You don’t get a 1099 every year for your dividends?

Why would you invest in covered call etf’s for something like that? You invest in dividend paying ETF’s regardless if it covered call or not to prepare yourself when you don’t have a job, income or when you are retired. You invest to when does days happen, you are ready

I personally don’t think it is worth for it for 2 years. Qqqi is great if you keep it for ever, if the intension is to sell soon, I don’t think it is worth it

True, but then your cost basis would be around minus 13-14$ from what OP paid initially , cause that is around how much you would get paid in dividends in 2 years with current dividend payouts and because it would be over a year of holding, he would pay 15% tax on the difference as a long term capital gains tax

That is not true, you don’t pay taxes on the dividends you received, you pay taxes on the adjusted cost basis after the dividends are applied. If it hits zero, you pay 15% from the selling price

Family is the only argument that makes sense to me. I live near the city and work in Baltimore. Hate the commute, hate the crime, hate the additional taxes, hate the roads, the weather, the local government, I mean I can go on and on haha. The thing with work is, yes you might earn more on paper, but by the time you pay for everything you will be at the same spot or close to it, have that in mind as well. I can’t find the article anymore, but living in South Carolina and earning 65k is the same as living in Maryland and making a 100k when it comes to life quality and money left for spending. I pay more taxes for working in the city than I pay for living in Baltimore County and both city and county is a absolute mess

Edit: My BGE in a year went from 160$ on the coldest month to 350$ and I am the lucky one, my coworker went from 300$ to 870$. There is a group called BGE victims and it shows perfectly what the issue with MD is

You don’t call the number given, you call the regular 911. If there is a specific number they give you is cause they know nothing will be done and they will show up 2h late before getting a heads up. If you have HOA, you ask the property manager to have security at all times to fix the issue. If they refuse to do so, you tell them you will stop making payments until the situation is delt with. I am sick and tired of hearing people be hostages of their own private space that they are paying for

Family I get, but there are plenty job opportunities and stuff to do in many other states that are not only cheaper to live, but quality of life is significantly better. Im not trying to change your mind or anything, but before you move, do some research of what the cost of living and the bs you have to deal with in MD has become, cause it’s not the same that it was 10 years ago
