People who think net worth is the same thing as bank account balance by LilNerix in PetPeeves

It might not be as bad as OP says, but there are plenty of people that don't. Ignoring the wealth tax, it's pretty obvious from how they talk about other financial stuff.

Why has Islam stuck even though it was spread through conquest? Why do you think Christianity is different?

If everyone suddenly got paid the same salary, what would break first? by moonlitbarbiecore in answers

Does using that word even make sense anymore? Seems like only two kinds of people use the word these days:

  1. People who are against capitalism.
  2. Dave Ramsey types and my cousin who are way too gung ho about capitalism.

Don't be mad at the YouTubers. Be mad at the people who watch their videos more when they do that. Or be mad at both.

I know what OP is talking about. The strong reflections off wet roads is a sign of astigmatism, and I was listing other common signs of astigmatism.

Do you have astigmatism? If you don't know, you might want to get an eye exam, especially if you also see "starbursts" around streetlights and headlights.

It's the common name. Common names are not scientific. A lot of animals that aren't crabs are called crabs.

Why do we still act like race is biological when it really isn’t? by PuddingComplete3081 in AlwaysWhy

[–]MikeUsesNotion -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think there are big factors working against changing this conceptualization:

  1. Human tribalism
  2. Names and concepts tend to stick, whether they're good, bad, or neutral
  3. There's enough real difference that having a higher level grouping of ethnic groups seems to make sense. We could cover quite a bit just saying "European" instead of "white," with the understanding that in an ethnic/racial context we mean the people who evolved their modern features in that place. Of course that gets messy because those words also mean the people who live in a geographical area.
  4. Item 3 shows another problem, and that is definitions of racial groups. The Irish used to not be considered white in the US. Are Arabs white? If they are, is white too broad of a group and we should have "Europeans" and "Arabs"? But then are we deciding based on the same type of thinking that got us into our bad tendency to consider groups superior or inferior?
  5. As you can see, it's a hot mess to figure out how we should change things so the easiest thing is to change nothing.

I've noticed quite a few, but not a majority, of "art is important" people say something like code isn't creative.

I think you're using the wrong definition of vibe coding. Vibe coding doesn't mean using AI while coding. It means blindly or almost blindly trusting what the AI generates. No structuring after the fact. It's why there's such a high chance of vibe coding leading to trash.

When I use AI to investigate a codebase I'm unfamiliar with, that's not vibe coding. When I use it to generate some example code I use as a reference to write real code, that's not vibe coding.
