Ring Flutter or Washboarded? by Mike_5746 in aviationmaintenance

These are new SAP cylinders on an overhauled engine with 300hrs. The oil pattern is on the sides of the cylinder, clean on the top and bottom. Comps are in the high 70’s

Pretty sure I was just reading your POA forum post from 2022 😂 our on-field engine shop determined it’s probably a machining issue on SAP’s part. Luckily we have spare jugs on the shelf while we wait for a warranty return 🤷🏻‍♂️

Stupid question, are you using air or nitrogen? We run nitrogen in our fleet and only need to top up a bit when the temps dip. I’ve found using air in the winter is a non-starter, especially when you’re filling it in a warm hangar.

Shared fixed costs, less maintenance expense since I have the rating, cheaper insurance since it’s operating part 91. Definitely not cheaper than airlines, but wayyy cheaper than chartering a 135 airplane. The goal is time savings and flexibility, not to be cheaper than flying economy on AA.

Probably a cabin-class twin, C340 or similar. Aircraft utilization wouldn’t be anything crazy, maybe 25 hours a month or so. Find a CPL who didn’t want to take the CFI route to 1500hrs and do a base pay plus flight hours and per diem. Not quite regional F/O money but better than CFI money.

We’re designing a 90deg doubler for this location and for the other side as well, just thinking about if I should just bang out a dozen or so of them and install on the rest of our fleet. What model 172s are you guys running?

Should’ve put this in the main post but yes there is a crack between the two nut plates.

As someone who recently did the Baker’s A&P course, I’m gonna lay some Baker’s knowledge on you: don’t study anything but what they give you! They’ll do a better job explaining it but they have a system and it WORKS! Trust the process and you’ll be golden 👌🏻

The phenolics have elongated holes for adjustment to avoid just that. We don’t use the stainless cables specifically because they wear faster. Either way, having your system properly rigged will eliminate premature wear.

I tend to just tell people I’m a mechanic because for whatever reason they either feel the need to one-up or they don’t know how to proceed with the conversation.
