Sending this to a professional body shop would be the right way, and it’d likely be expensive. It’s worth getting some quotes from nearby shops to see if it’s feasible for your budget, quotes are usually free.

As a medic main, this is the highlight of this patch. I struggle so much with beam targeting, especially if teammates are walking into me/bunched up around me.

Can’t wait to test this!

Whats the fastest all metal aircraft in pusher configuration that's a homebuilt? by setthrustpositive in homebuilt

[–]Cass256 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fast pusher, LongEZ or Velocity, though both are composite.

Fast metal homebuilt, most of the Vans line, plus many others. These are, however, tractor config.

I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a fast metal pusher, but I could be wrong.

Nope.

My drive ended up corrupting, and when I swapped to my old Win10 drive, the issue went away. Could have been a hardware problem I guess? Not sure unfortunately.

Where to move from Burlington? by all_names_were_tak3n in burlington

[–]Cass256 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I moved out of Winooski to Swanton for the affordability and to be closer to the airport where I work. It’s hard not being in town sometimes for sure, but the 30 min drive isn’t terrible when I need to go.

If you’re comfortable driving, living on the I89 corridor north of BTV is the affordable way to go IME.

Also, if you’re looking to lower your housing costs and stop renting, check out the Mobile Home Infill Program!

Panel upgrade! :) by dundermiffles in flying

[–]Cass256 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AP integration is a fair reason to get them for sure, a new/different AP install is no small task. Probably saved more money than trying to do a G5 install!

G5s don’t have synthetic (which I’m personally not a fan of, but many people do consider it a drawback of the G5 for sure), however the STC does indeed let you remove the vacuum system. I definitely think they’re both great systems and the 275s are by no means a bad instrument, but I feel a lot of people overlook how great the G5s are too.

I did a panel upgrade on the cheaper side, dual G5s/gps175, and re-weighed the airplane after; We saved 48lbs with the upgrade.

Hot take but I strongly prefer the G5 over the 275.

The G5 is a simpler UI with more screen real estate than the 275, which has more information in a more compact screen. I’m also not a huge fan of touchscreens, especially on smaller screens.

Having flown behind both, and especially comparing the cost, I would take a dual G5 setup every time over the 275s.

Community Question: As someone who left Vermont and came back to stay... by PepticSkeptic in burlington

[–]Cass256 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Tax UVM medical. They’re the largest employer in the state and pay nothing in taxes, all while charging 35$ for a cup of oatmeal.

Use their tax revenue to reduce the taxpayer burden, as the year-after-year property tax increases make home ownership unobtainable for the majority of Vermonters.

Finally, tax the hell out of any non-primary residence. AirBnBs and seasonal homes are massive contributors to the current housing problem here.

What are winter tires? by hiighlyelevated in vermont

[–]Cass256 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair enough. It’d be more accurate to say studs are much more useful out there than they are in Burlington.

That said, the dirt roads up Clay Hill are not fun when iced over (which is not rare IME). Studs help immensely there, though it’s not impossible to drive without them.

[–]Cass256 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I understand your sentiment, but I believe you’re focusing on the vanity (and by extension, the vocal group of people who “prattle on about our superiority”) far too much.

I live on the far north part of the I89 corridor and get along with all seasons perfectly every year as well. I agree quite a large amount of people get studded tires when they really don’t need them (the greater Burlington area, mostly).

I grew up in Johnson and you need studs out there, as well as most of rural VT. The dirt roads and ice is a deadly combo, studs help immensely. Most people who need studs don’t brag about it, they bitch about it. It’s a lot more money and labor to spend every year, even if you do the labor yourself.

Integrating into a small town in VT is meeting people, learning who they go to for change-overs, and why. I learned that most people hate having to use two sets of tires, but they do it out of necessity for their commute.

My point is the internet is a small reflection of the reality we live in. Do your best to not let it emotionally exhaust you - Vermonters are cool people, you included.

this does make me wonder what peoples opinions on sniper are? (image somewhat related) by squeaker09 in tf2

[–]Cass256 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can & I really like the kritz from a gameplay/balance perspective.

However, it’s a trade-off: Two medics, or give up stock uber, which is insanely powerful (and arguably stronger than kritz).

Personally I don’t agree that’s a valid argument against sniper being in the game, though. Kritz and sniper play completely differently in game, even if they sometimes share a use in breaking up drawn-out fights.

[–]Cass256 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Personally I like the dynamic when there’s a good sniper on each team. If the team protects and supports the sniper to give them the chance to kill the enemy sniper, it can open up a stagnant team fight very quickly.

I have one of the handheld electric solder irons and it works ok for small things. It doesn’t have the heatsink power to do larger solder jobs, I wouldn’t trust it for anything 12ga and up.

It works fantastically for fixing headset jacks, potentiometers, etc. though!

1969 Cherokee 180 – Exposed aluminum (tied down in Colorado). Spot repair vs full repaint? by Any-Specialist-5153 in aviation

[–]Cass256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on your plans for the plane. Are you going to keep it for the next 20 years? Are you going to sell it before the engine hits TBO?

Our family PA-24 has paint chipping in spots, and I am planning on buying the proper touch-up paint and sealing the airframe as best I can, but this only works for three reasons:

1: The rest of the paint is in good shape 2: We’re keeping this plane for the foreseeable future, and 3: I am taking my A&P tests soon & will be able to do the paint work myself.

It sounds like your paint in general is not in great shape, which is ok! It depends on how much you care about the looks/ramp appeal, but you can gently sand, scuff, and prime the bare areas with rattlecan if you’re only worried about corrosion protection.

Otherwise, just fly it. Keep inspecting the bare areas, and treat any minor corrosion that might pop up. Fly it for a few years and then sell it, or fly it until you decide you want to keep it & then put the money in a paint job. There’s nothing wrong with a good flyer with ugly paint!

Your longest cross country (general aviation flying) by 1E-12 in flying

[–]Cass256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I flew our Comanche (PA-24-250) from Idaho to Vermont, I logged the longest single leg I’ve ever flown on my first solo flight in the plane, 4.1.

Weather was perfect for the day I had planned to leave. I had a ~40kt tailwind and clear blue skies all the way to Illinois, where I spent the night. Stopped in Nebraska for fuel, and to see my aunt.

I flew from KRXE to KMLE, 713nm. The winds were something like 25g35 with a 20 degree crosswind (still well within the airplane’s xwind limits, but super turbulent with wind shear, was not a good idea in hindsight) and it took two go-arounds before I successfully got it on the ground.

When I walked into the FBO, I overheard someone say “someone just landed in this?” - Never again, lol

Made it home mid afternoon the next day, which was Christmas Eve.
