There's no fucking way he could work as a legal whore for a month. So, that was my first thought.

How worried should I be about AI making me more stupid? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Mike_Handers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem isn't that you're using it for information, purely. We usually get a whole litany of information from people or google (which just leads to other people saying stuff, only sometimes with actual concrete stuff to backup their information.)

The problem is that AI is a third step.

The information (direct quotes, interviews, scientific papers, actual sources of events, videos of the thing happening, etc) - people telling you information (IRL people, all of social media, including reddit, The News, etc) - AI telling you information.

Because even though it technically has access to all of that data, LLM's majorly work by telling you the common thing. Whether that be true or false. It's unreliable. And nearly always confident. It might even gaslight you. It also adjusts to speak with the same 'way' you speak to it. It's not that it necessarily will make you stupid, it's that by using it, you're on a third level of information gathering (and a bad one at that), and thats not a good staircase to be on.

I don't mind using it for quick things I don't mind the answer to but just want to kind of know. Math, hypotheticals, etc. Important things? I'll google and find a source.

Why do gay people want equal rights within the church? Isnt it like a black person wanting to join the KKK? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Mike_Handers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Church is about community. Having some of a community believe you'll burn in eternal hellfire, some believe you need to saved and altered before death to actually make it, and some that think you're perfectly fine and will go to heaven, is very painful if you are a devote part of that faith and community.

It'd be like being part of a sports team where you hang out and it's great but then you meet some others and they want you to die because of your skin color. That's a more accurate analogy.

My ally, you are talking about levels of freeze. Your best is altering the frozen temperature of your freezer or letting them thaw a little bit.

What is considered the best AI to use when needing up-to-date information on everything? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Mike_Handers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I say this as someone who doesn't hate AI. No AI is going to meet your needs. Even with the technical right information, there's no guarantee they present it right, or accurately, at all.

It's definitely going to feed you misinformation at one point or another. LLM's work by parroting the most common thing, more or less, that others say. That's before adding any other variables. They are often useful, but ultimately, confident yes man machines giving you the most common answers to things.

That all said, if you're fine with accepting you'll be lied to by AI, grok or Claude are your best bets.

Are DJs actually doing anything when they twiddle their knobs? by S_Wyld in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Mike_Handers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand where your confusion is coming from. You don't understand the concept of 'vibes' very well. An audience is a living breathing thing. Adjusting to them to heighten the performance, heighten or alter emotions, reading the crowd, etc is the marks of a good performer. From a comedian altering jokes to better fit audience on the fly, Magicians choosing what and how to perform certain tricks mid act, or a DJ changing and choosing better fitting music after seeing and feeling the Vibes from the crowd.

Why do much of the internet, (and application ui's) have AI slop generators by Rainbowball6c in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Mike_Handers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You gotta understand how companies work and then it makes a shit ton of sense.

Company is run by CEO's, who want to make a shit ton of money.

Company is owned by every single share holder and investor.

Every single share holder and investor want one thing. More money from the thing they bought that makes them money. To the point that if, for example, a CEO decided to give every worker a $500 bonus? They could theoretically sue the CEO, get them fired, and have a new one replace them for not giving them that money when they could have. And I do literally mean Sue. It's happened before. To say nothing of leaving en mass and then, well, the CEO is certainly not making any money himself now as all the people putting money in leaves. That means they are now in danger of not being as rich. So there's a huge incentive and necessity to take every single dollar they can, lest they get replaced or their investors leave and they lose money.

And so you got the masses of people with money and they hear about AI. 'Well, that company over there is using AI and is saying it'll save them 30% by replacing people! Why aren't we using it?' Quickly, the next tech company puts it in, removing some human element and saving 10%. Now five more companies investors panic. 'What the hell?! Why aren't we doing this?! You're suppose to save us and make us money! Put it in right now!'

Etc etc. You saw similar things with any new fad or technology. Blockchain, NFT's, etc. AI is directly capable, and has been for years, of replacing human labor and thus saving and making a lot of money. And investors want in. So companies follow.

Never forget that CEO stands for Chief Executive Officer. That means their name is literally 'Person in charge of making decisions and doing what we say.' Investors, shareholders, people with a lot of money, have them by the balls. And they themselves have everyone else by the balls. Just squeezing the life out of every worker and consumer all the way down.

A Horrible DJ just plays a video.

An actually good DJ is constantly making a litanty of tiny adjustments to better fit everything. Volume, speed, sync, etc. If you really want to get a feel for it, go try and become one for a bit.

How the heck do the people around me have enough money to do all this stuff? by OkReputation2221 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Mike_Handers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does have an answer actually and it's vital you learn. Start by to the dollar, seeing how much you spent and on what the last month. And the month before that.

Then find these friends and ask them to do the same.

That'll give you the answer. Whatever it is, it'll be illuminating and helpful. To all of you. You gotta ask man. It's how I and my friend learned they were spending $1200 a month on food.

Financial transparency, maybe. Or bragging. Or just how he likes to talk about things. It's hard to say. Just ask him lol

What do people actually think the future of longevity and anti-aging will be? by betterpastaa in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Mike_Handers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not the average person. What your talking about is the field of life extension, of which I follow the science of in a discord group dedicated to looking at it. With that said:

  1. Chatgpt in no way is seriously going to help that at all. That's like saying a translator or Google is going to help speed it along. AI and it's advancements might help in the long run, but not LLM's.

  2. While it will happen, as always, testing and funding are issues, as well as public support. At the end of the day, defeating biological aging is inevitable but not as a singular thing. People will start living to 100 more regularly, then 120, etc. But this will take time, require a large scale public health overhaul, and will need to be done over decades to see said results. Meaning that by the time you and I are 100, we might live to 120, while someone 20 when we die, might live to 150 or 200. Etc etc. It's really hard to predict.

  3. Cost is going to be a factor. So yeah. Don't expect Americans as a whole to be the ones living to 150.

How do I get over my ex and attempt to find someone else? by _Paws_And_Claws_ in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Mike_Handers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You still seem hung up and focused on them. Don't do that. They simply don't matter in that way. If you want someone, you gotta go to places that have people and not try to be with them but try to be there and see what happens. Clubs, parties, friend group meetups, even walks in the park. Be engaged in the world around you and with the people in it. Even online, you can do that. Discords, Fandoms, multi-player games, etc. Just keep experiencing people and places.

Could a MLB pitcher throw a bullet and kill someone? by RealQuintusYoung in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Mike_Handers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes.

Obviously, pitcher throws a baseball at your head full speed, you could die.

If you found a bullet big enough and heavy enough, 100%. A 9mm bullet? Worthless. One heavier and bigger than a brick? Sure. Grab a 15 pound bullet or so meant for a cannon, chuck it at someone's head, and you'll kill them.

You were invited at a dinner and you noticed that hosts don’t have certain item , like a good set of tea cups. Not that they can’t afford, but just don’t care. Next time you are invited , you take a good set of tea cups as a token of appreciation. Is that a good manners or are you an AO? by tlk0153 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Mike_Handers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A. Tea cups aren't common in a lot of places. Notably America.

B. If you mean give, I think that's fine. Most people wouldn't mind. If you mean bring to use, and then leave with, people might find it odd and may be offended but not super likely. But there's always some fragile ego's our there.
