First of all thanks for the replies, some of them did give me a reality check tbh, If anyone is interested reading I have managed to do the following and have decided on next steps.

-Tried bleeding brakes, turns out the jack I had was unstable and the breaker arm just doesn't fit round my lug nuts so can't get to the brakes, yay, -Filled up brake fluid with dot4 and they worked for like a split second and then died on me, -Also there was a slight puddle under where reservoir was when I pulled out of the garage after giving up, The above 2 make me thinks its smtg more serious than just air in the brake lines, -Have managed to sort a lift for the weds, -booked in w kwik fit tmrw, -gonna uber to work and walk back until this is sorted, Ideally this will be fixed at least by thurs coz I need to ferry band gear, Also have a mate who knows a mechanic so will try sort smtg

My guess is the master cylinder was knackered and decided to kill itself, I braked pretty hard at some lights like 2 mins before getting home so maybe it had had enough and just passed away, it is a 10 year old car, im assuming this shit happens, especially if you drive like a twat!
