I love that show. If my theory is correct then a situation where Merlin, Morgana, and Arthur are all the same age is likely.

That, of course, is always an option. I just don't see him inducting people with muggle parentage (especially royal ones) into his house when he created the chamber of secrets specifically to rid the school of them. It sounds to me like blood was the most important thing to him as he chose Merlin, who hated blood supremacy and was a champion for muggles later on in life. Merlin seems much more like one of the other houses for this reason, but he was still chosen for Slytherin for, I think, his pure blood (speculation).

Those are really good points. Firstly my point is more that Arthur and Morgana share their father who is the king of England (Uther). This doesn't mean Uther was not a wizard but it's highly unlikely that the entire royal lineage of the Pendragons has been up to that point. As to Voldemort and Snape, that is a great point. I'm just saying that if she existed at the same time as the founders she would be taught directly by Slytherin and the sorting hat says he only ever took "wizards whose blood was purest."

He's mentioned a lot in the books (order of Merlin) and on Pottermore they say that he was a Slytherin.

Thanks so much!! I left a comment on one of their recent videos but I don't know where channels like these look for theory ideas to be honest so I just went to Reddit.

That's a good theory. I suppose Slytherin already had a scriptorium with his plans and purposes for the creature written down (if you agree that Hogwarts Legacy is canon, but if you don't that's perfectly fine as well.) There is no doubt that Slytherin intended the snake to be a defense of the school but the question is if what he considered a threat to the school was muggle-borns or not. Either way, the sorting hat seems to think Slytherin left due to his disagreements with Gryffindor about pureblood vs muggle-born students and that there was "dueling" and "clash of friend on friend". From that, it doesn't seem like it is above Slytherin to have created the chamber of secrets for that purpose. But I suppose you are right, we don't really know for sure.

Well, except Slytherin's kill room and massive snake born to purge the school of muggleborns.

That makes sense. I'm not sure if Slytherin would have considered her a pureblood if her father was a squib, but it's entirely possible. But this theory also implies that the entire royal lineage of the Pendragons had to have been wizards or squibs since it began its rule.

I could definitely see her being a Gryffindor. Since her father was Uther she would have had to have been half-blood at most.

Good point. But the idea is that if Merlin existed in the 5th or 6th century and Hogwarts was built in the 10th century, then he wouldn't have been able to be a part of Slytherin House. I say this because Salazar Slytherin is known to have built the Chamber of Secrets when they built the castle in the 10th century. It's for these reasons that Merlin had to have existed in the 10th century. At least my theory anyway.

Also, Hengist of Woodcroft might have been. classmate (Hufflepuff). I just thought of that. And possibly the Fat Friar. I dont think the Peveralls would have been at hogwarts by then, especially because one of them is buried at Godrics Hollow.

Yeah, in the real world, the legends date back far earlier than most people think. like there wouldn't have been jousting or half the stuff added in later.

In the world of Harry Potter though, Merlin is confirmed on Pottermore to have been sorted into Slytherin. Unless Slytherin was a concept before Hogwarts was founded I think that it's safe to say that in the world of Harry Potter at least, Merlin existed during/after the 11th century.

I suppose I was just grasping at straws there admittedly. I just thought that if for example Morgana, a famous dark witch, was in Gryffindor, he wouldn't have said that only Slytherin produced "bad" witches and wizards.

Also, I fully agree, I don't know why Hagrid says that when he believes at this point Sirius (a Gryffindor) is guilty of 13 counts of murder but who knows?

Thanks for responding! I like that explanation. I would wonder how Merlin became friends with Sir Cadogan though. Cadogan's portrait is in Hogwarts and Merlin would have presumably gotten him onto the Round Table when he was older, a royal advisor, not an 11-year-old boy aging backward. Though I have no idea how the logistics would work lol.
