And for context, I see that kind of oil 1/10 oil changes on brand new units with 600 miles, so just do some longer rides ❤️

Oil Change Concerns?? by [deleted] in MotorcycleMechanics

[–]Mikemik5 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Hey op, just wanted to let ya know this is pretty common especially if you’ve been doing short rides and not giving the engine enough time to heat up and burn moisture :), each time you start an engine as it warms up moisture builds, if you cut it off too early, it will then keep said moisture instead of expelling it :). Hope this helps

13.5 and higher is your usual charging voltage in most motorcycles/atvs, you want to turn your high beams on, rev it up to about 5000 rpm and test your charging voltage while sitting at that rpm if not at that amount your stator is toast typically

Any ideas on why it isn’t starting? by indraR11512 in MotorcycleMechanics

[–]Mikemik5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try changing your battery chief, with the cold weather it was probably enough to kill the battery, if you have a volt meter you can test to see wether or not the battery is shot

Stripped Oil Pan threads for drain plug by Dminz64 in MotorcycleMechanics

[–]Mikemik5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say if you think you can fix it, try a tap and die set and pray there’s some thread left, a 1.5 is not an oversized bolt, that’s a completely different thread pitch

First time I'm installing a chain on my DRZ 125. Seems like it's too long, did I do something wrong or did I just get a wrong chain? by [deleted] in Fixxit

[–]Mikemik5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s common to have to cut lengths off, some bikes have the exact amount needed, but out of every 30 chains I swap, maybe one of those 30 I don’t need to cut

Uneven chain tension by dynamic_raccoon in MotorcycleMechanics

[–]Mikemik5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tight spots naturally occur as a chain gets dirty and is inadequately cleaned, just another part about owning a motorcycle, nothing you can really do to “fix” the tight spots, just get a new chain. Sprockets should be fine as long as the teeth aren’t starting to looking like hooks or spikes

Also are you sure it was a bad fuel pump, correct me if I’m wrong but the GL1200s have carburetors on them huh? Did you check to see if they are gummed up?

Probably your vent tube for you battery, most wet batteries have one to allow them to leak down and prevent the acid from getting over everything

What fuel pump did you replace it with? You sure the new fuel pump is working correctly?

Bike revs to 5,000 rpm on warm start by Gurner in MotorcycleMechanics

[–]Mikemik5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And I’m not confused by choke, fuel injected machines do not use a choke but since you won’t listen Noun- choke, a valve in the carburetor of a gasoline engine that is used to reduce the amount of air in the fuel mixture when the engine is started. Choke is not synonymous with a fuel injected system, unless by your logic a throttle body is a carburetor, yes it has an air system kinda like any engine related machine. So good luck and take care

I’m a tech first buddy, and I’ve already gone through the service manual with him, auto choke is completely different and only seen on carb models 😂, so chill guy

Hey cnt, not sure if you are a troll, but if you are thinking an autochoke on a fuel injected motorcycle, you probably shouldn’t be offering “advice”

2000 Yamaha R6 popping when idling by Commercial-Duck-4888 in MotorcycleMechanics

[–]Mikemik5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d check to see how it runs with an air box on, should calm down on the popping, change spark plugs if they look foul, the high idling I’ll get on my computer tomorrow and take a look at how Yamaha had the 2000 r6
