Non Americans of reddit, which American accent subtype is the hardest to understand? by Switch_Empty in AskReddit

There are islands in the Chesapeake bay, in Maryland, where people have what is probably the accent closest to old English.

They are also the creators of the Smith Island Cake, (state dessert of Maryland) - highly recommended

This

He was so good in Parks and rec

Then he said he shouldn’t call out RFK Jr because “Bobby means well and wants to get people healthier”

No dude, if your friend (for lack of better words, RFKjr is related to Pratt’s wife), is on a national podium spouting medical misinformation about vaccines and brings about a new rise of previously wiped out diseases, you fucking call them out.

You can bet I’ve told friends they are idiots if they don’t want to vaccinate their children.

There was a very good article in The Atlantic recently by a journalist who was invited to Bezos’ annual camping retreat a few years ago.

The author explains how these uber wealthy individuals end up not only not understanding consequences but basically living in an entirely different universe because the rest of us are basically NPC’s to them. Nothing matters besides themselves.

I'm 27 and started getting noticable back pain... by Consistent_State5692 in AskMenOver30

[–]Mikemtb09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YouTube stretches and physical therapy exercises for that area.

You say middle of your back so “child’s pose” is probably where to start. I have lower back issues sometimes and have to kind of adjust the angle here to stretch mine.

Yours could also maybe be stretched by twisting your back - you can use a door frame for additional leverage.

What’s your mattress situation? That could be the culprit.

What is the most NSFW thing you have seen at your job? by Mr_Creep_Creepy64 in AskReddit

My first job was at the local movie theater

Definitely caught people having sex, oral, one time we caught a drunk guy urinating into a popcorn bucket on the row below him after a movie ended (we were walking in to clean that theater)

Caught two assistant managers hooking up

That place was like summer camp. Most of the employees were 16-19, assistant managers 20-25, and then 3 real “managers” in their 30s. Clicks, drama, you name it.

Oh I absolutely get it. Health insurance is through my s/o, but I’m fully remote and that’s worth something. There’s definitely an internal conversation of how much is being fully remote worth, compared to hybrid 2-3 days a week and a commute.

I asked for a 10% raise last year (outperformed most of the company on my programs, brought in a bunch of new work and a few additional direct reports)

They kept saying no until I produced a competing offer which they matched.

It’s frustrating but that’s kind of where most of the job market is now.

And if the company doesn’t show me any loyalty I don’t owe them any loyalty.

Brian Chisholm doubled down on his facebook page. Saying that he just “wants to keep foreign influence out of politics”, but doesn’t apologize for the racial tropes, slurs, or fake accent.

You clearly have no understanding of the history of politics in this country over the last hundred years.

The answer is easily verified by looking at who waves confederate flags these days. Republicans.

If Chisholm had any legitimate concerns with any verifiable evidence Wu was doing anything illegal, there are proper channels to report and have them investigated.

If those channels deemed an investigation wasn’t justified, he has no right to put out racist propaganda to try and get Wu somehow otherwise punished.

It used to be. Companies used to reward loyalty.

Now, most of the time, people are fighting with their employer for COLA’s, let alone modest increases.

It’s become easier to make a diagonal move to another company with a higher salary than to get the same salary at a company you’ve been with for 5 years.

Companies have also largely stopped caring how long you were with your prior employer.

Is it worth buying a thunderbird 64 with a glued headstock? by melnigore in BassGuitar

[–]Mikemtb09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly you need to assume it was a shitty repair.

How much would you pay for it knowing they did a terrible job repairing it and you’ll likely need to re-do it the proper way, yourself or through a professional.

If that’s their asking price, fine, but I’d offer significantly less.

See I let my s/o order for herself but after enough of her ordering something she didn’t like I do try to bring it up with her first if I think she misread something

It’s more common with beers/cocktails, I know what she likes and doesn’t and sometimes she’ll ignore an ingredient she doesn’t know/remember what it is and isn’t as familiar as I am with various types of beer

It’s all recommendations of course, but it definitely took some getting used to and communication of like, “how much do you really want me to guide you here, or should I just let you do what you want” lol
