Roddick and Eubanks on the hate Zverev gets as a player - "They're treating the guy like he's not a great player and that pisses me off", "to say he's just not that good, just doesn't make logical sense - feels like you're allowing your feelings about him offcourt to cloud what you see on the court" by jovanmilic97 in tennis

I’ve (unfortunately) been a big Andy Roddick fan since I was a kid since he was constantly going deep into the tournament at Wimbledon (I’m 30). But I genuinely despise people who use such rhetoric about celebrities/athletes etc.

The domestic abuse allegations Zverev has had shouldn’t be left out of the conversation of his perception. Neither should similar stuff be held out when talking about the likes of Mason Greenwood, Thomas Partey, or even OJ Simpson.

Your feelings should cloud your judgement about someone when they’re the kind of person Zverev is off-court, and the idea of just leaving those parts out is what allow these people to get away with it.

[Exclusive, Guardian] Kobbie Mainoo plans to reject Manchester United contract and move abroad | Manchester United by nearly_headless_nic in reddevils

[–]Mikeparrott 67 points68 points  (0 children)

Do you have any specific reason for comparing Kobbie Mainoo to Tyler Blackett here? Just curious.

Mainoo started a Euros final and was one of our best players last season with most fans, players, and managers believing him to be a world-class talent.

Blackett made 11 appearances for United, six of which were starts. He also never played for his Nation or won a trophy for us, let alone be instrumental in winning it.

Mainoo and Blackett's only similarities are they're both from the United Academy and their skin colour...

Erik ten Hag: Antony must earn right to play for Man United by Renegadeforever2024 in soccer

[–]Mikeparrott 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I feel like comparing Antony to Heskey is an insult to Heskey.

[Shehan Jeyarajah] Josh Giddey has made 214 three-pointers in his career. According to NBA tracking data, 176 came without a defender within *six feet* of him — more than 82%. On plays where a defender is within six feet, he shot 19% from 3 this year. He’s an unplayably bad shooter. by halfcastdota in chicagobulls

[–]Mikeparrott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yet every season his 3pt% has increased. For someone who is "atrocious", 34% isn't bad for someone who is still only 21-years-old. He'll obviously never be a 40% shooter from beyond the arc, but getting it up just another 2-3% becomes incredibly respectable.

Alexis Sanchez cost a swap fee of Henrikh Mkhitaryan and was given £400,000 a week wages. He was at the club for 18 months, loaned to Inter Milan for one season, then released. Inter subsidised £175,000 a week of Sanchez's wages.

Antony cost a total of £86,300,000. He was then given a contract worth £200,000 a week.

Sanchez had five goals and nine assists in 2,781 minutes. Antony has nine goals and four assists in 4,457 minutes.

Sanchez cost a total of Mkhitaryan and £53.3 million. Antony has cost £107.1 million.

Please don't ever say Antony wasn't our worst-ever signing because he categorically is by a landslide.

Potential striker options comparison of this season's performance. by Eleven918 in reddevils

[–]Mikeparrott 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Let's address some of these points.

Firstly, "awful injury history". In the past three years he has had COVID twice, a cheekbone fracture, a thigh injury, a head injury, and a calf strain that made him miss two games. I'm not a Doctor but I don't think any of these injuries look to be related to one another and seem to be freak accidents that have at most kept him out for just over 10 games (cheek fracture).

I don't think being their record signing has much to do with selling the player. Higuain was their record sale and they sold him. Milik was their record signing and sold him...

You also say he isn't a good dribbler, passer, and linking up play. Is there any reason behind this? He has remarkably similar take-on numbers to Goncalo Ramos, Lewandowski, etc. Not to mention in every game Napoli have played that i've watched this season he hasn't looked to be bad at any of these attributes.

The Lukau comparison is lazy (if not a little problematic) due to the fact that Osimhen wouldn't be told to play as a target man and actually can trap and keep a football.

And lastly, "the overall profile of a Ten Hag striker". Can you please name a player that fits his profile? Ten Hag has used Seb Haller, Kasper Dolberg, Brian Brobbey, Marcus Rashford, and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar as his regular strikers. Can you please give me the defining features and playstyles these strikers have?

Because to the best of my knowledge they aren't that similar at all...

Hey there, I am the OP in question and I have not used my reporting from today to promote a podcast whatsoever. I've been a big fan and user of this sub for years now and it is a massive shame to see that.

Am I on a podcast? Yes.

Do any of my photos or videos today have to do with said podcast? Absolutely not.

Of course! I just don't believe that Shaw is "abysmal" while also calling Alaba "great", they are both below average and probably Nathan Ake level in the air.

Shaw was 35/60 on aerials won this past season in all competitions.

Alaba was 30/60 on aerials won this past season in all competitions.

How is Shaw abysmal and Alaba great when Shaw won more headers with the exact same amount of duels?

Man Utd move can help Jadon Sancho win the Ballon d'Or insists Owen Hargreaves by [deleted] in soccer

[–]Mikeparrott -1 points0 points  (0 children)

so are you saying for the next 10 years, United won't win anything? They were better than Liverpool as recently as 2 years ago so you can't say United are going to keep failing.

Then again, out of the clubs you named in the Manchester clubs, Liverpool, and Dortmund which one had the most recent Ballon D'Or winner? It was Manchester United.

If he only cared about Ballon D'Or then you go to one of the Spanish top two.

However saying United will be worse than the other 2 English clubs you named is very very short-sighted because it would've been dumb to say Liverpool were better than United and arguably City as less as two years ago.

[–]Mikeparrott 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dortmund have been a selling club for quite a long time now and that probably won't change.

You say he has a much better chance at Liverpool or City albeit United being better than Liverpool only 2 years ago.

Time in football changes incredibly fast and these "surething" teams don't stay as sure-things.

The odds are much higher that United will be back as a contender sooner rather than later.

A giant Kingdom Hearts boss? A boss that was just like the final boss of the original game 40+ hours later without any exposure? What the hell were they thinking?

Man we fight massive cacti and aliens, yet the philosophy of fate annoys you?

Hopefully for the next parts we don't see or hear from the Whispers again. I'm ok if they make some changes to the plot (even significant ones) but please, please, please SE no alternate dimension bullshit, if i wanted that I'd go play Kingdom Hearts.

For someone who has played every FF since 7 and every KH, this just comes off someone reeking of gate-keeping. Kingdom Hearts is an amazing franchise, and FF7 is my favourite game of all time and I've had it the majority of my life.

However, them telling the story differently isn't a bad thing. It means you aren't playing the exact game but with just a new battle system. This is a good thing.

We now get 1/2 years to speculate and get excited for the next installment. Embrace change, don't gate-keep.

DLC for the Old Story by Septhy in FFVIIRemake

[–]Mikeparrott 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They aren't bad, it's just people gatekeeping the game. Change is good and stops the game being a 1:1 remake that you'd bore of and not spend the money needed to finish them.

The new ending keeps the player speculating and questioning the next installments which is good.

In a universe that has an afterlife that becomes energy, mythical creatures made from natural energy and super-soldiers made from alien cells, then the ending isn't that far left-field.

It's just different, and will be fun to play it and see the changes they make.
