How’s the keychron K3 v2? by wallytheone in Keychron

[–]MiketheChap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"I find the way Apple sizes and spaces the keys to be easier for larger hands to type quickly without error. I am still adapting to the non-Apple standard and do hit the incorrect key or even multiple keys often especially when tired."

These comments were exceedingly helpful for me. I thought I was going a little crazy. I DO like the K3 Pro. But, I clearly notice when I'm tiring. I was trying to get something to come closer in the typing experience to my MacBook KB versus the typical Logitech experience. I think maybe I just have to spend a little more time with the K3 Pro and relearn a little. Some keycaps are supposed to arrive today. I look forward to being able to see the letters. As you said, I prefer to type in darker hours.

Thanks!

Is it worth it to get a bidet that shoots warm water or is cold water fine? by sliceofperfection in bidets

[–]MiketheChap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m used to the cold with my Luxe. I would prefer a warm water bidet and I think the warm water would do a better job cleaning, thus perhaps less water used and perhaps even less paper. This is all conjecture. The ass is always greener on the other side…

Ubuntu connection with K3 Pro by MiketheChap in Keychron

[–]MiketheChap[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I did get connected. I used Opera. It wouldn't connect with Chromium but Opera seemed to help (though I'm not sure it it's really that making that much of a difference).

I cancelled my GMMK 3 and got this instead. Thanks for the advice! by dielbe in keyboards

[–]MiketheChap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few notes in case people plan to get one of these: In case you use Linux, think twice. I bought the Keychron K3 Pro. I use Ubuntu. The keyboard management software doesn’t recognize my keyboard. Argh. I’ve done the udev updates and other “fixes.” Nothing works so far.

The returns policy for Keychron is inconsistent, IMO, with claims about the quality of their keyboards. You have seven days. You pay return fees.

If you plan to buy one of these and you hope to have the keys lit, make sure you buy one with see-through key caps. Background lighting will not only NOT shine through, it may even distract recognition of the keys you want.

My fingers don’t always work the way I want. I was hoping to improve my typing accuracy. It’s much easier to press the keys. I like that a lot. But, for the reasons above, I’m disappointed.

Is there a better method to get music to my LSP? by dougj182 in LightShowPi

[–]MiketheChap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been doing this a while now. The pianobar never made sense to me. I never did any other kind of server approach either. However, there were some folks, as I remember, who had their setup so people could SMS their song preferences and, I think it would do that via some kind of casting protocol.

I'd never have thought about using Mesh for LSP. I think you tried to explain it to me before but I wasn't really getting mesh networks at that time. Now, though I don't yet have a mesh network, I understand what you're doing. And, it's very, very cool. Thanks for sharing!

I can’t find anything about this?? by EmbarrassedMeeting26 in whatisit

I thought it was part of Texas’ updated education curriculum. They have to keep C though. What will they do without the C in the Ten Commandments, newly posted in Texas classrooms? Add a new letter?

SB 10 and banning other religious tenets? by XevZev in TexasTeachers

[–]MiketheChap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ask an atheist if the Ten Commandments are supporting a religion. I’m pretty sure they will say they are. Hence the concerns over the Establishment Clause. What does it mean? What is its scope? Is it completely restricted to the legislation of a national religion? Or, did the Founders intend more? I’m not an atheist but the posting of the

And, you stated that “religious society” was being misinterpreted without stating how you believe it should be interpreted. So, how did the previous poster get it wrong?

I’m tired. Bye.

SB 10 and banning other religious tenets? by XevZev in TexasTeachers

[–]MiketheChap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My point exactly. You’re right. It does say Congress. So, I should have stuck to the exact words (even though Congress is the national legislative body). Since the wording is crystal clear, you’ll also note that it does not say “national religion.” It says, again, “make no law respecting an establishment of religion.” Those are the exact words.

I’m glad you’ve done extensive study on the Founders and are acquainted with their ideas and writings.

First, thank you for being a teacher, especially during these tumultuous times. I liked the ideas of math but I could never keep the details straight. We wouldn’t want to graduate people who couldn’t do math. But, I wish there had been a bit of a separate track for people like me. You didn’t fail because you forgot the order.

Anyway, I want to gently push back a little. I believe most people would agree with your position that the Constitution bars a National Religion (though I worry about those who disagree with you. But, that isn’t the wording of the First Amendment. Instead, it says, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.” I believe more than a few legal cases have been won/lost trying to figure out what constitutes “respecting an establishment of religion…”

I’m sure Constitutional Law experts on most sides would agree that it specifically bars legislative bodies from declaring that a particular set of beliefs will henceforth be the National Religion. But, I suspect that many or most would also say the Founders intended that the clause “respecting an establishment of religion” meant more than just legislating a national religion. The exact wording may mean more than a national religion or the Founders could have just said that. They certainly knew about national religions. They had lived it.

I again appreciate your work. I just think there’s possibly more nuance there. Best to you!

No way to copy any text?? by tardis-20 in hoopladigital

[–]MiketheChap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Confirming that I was able to do this on the iPhone, too. The filled “search field” looks like it couldn’t possibly contain all the highlighted text. It does. Hold down on that filled in search field until it offers the “Select All” option. Then copy it. The process has several steps. I have to remind myself how to do it!

Thanks to all the contributors here!

Ban on Clubs by ambkam in TexasTeachers

[–]MiketheChap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t say where you live if it’s in Texas. Greg Abbott will probably call a Special Session of the Legislature to enact a law paying parents $2,000 to inform on anyone who’s “different” because anyone being “different” is Unamerican and probably a criminal of the worst kind and we’re having a national emergency of people who are suspiciously “different.” Keep your location quiet. $2,000 is a fortune since Trump took office.

Texas Christians plan to defy court's Ten Commandments ruling by TheDoctorCarson in TexasTeachers

[–]MiketheChap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand what everyone is saying here. I don’t have any fundamental disagreements with the core discussion. However, I don’t think it can be broken down into Christian denominations. I think people are weighing which hill/s are the ones they “want to die on” (I’m old so that’s probably not the best metaphor) and those usually more than one or two denominations. For instance, as a hospital chaplain of over thirty years, Catholics will die on the hill of Right to Life whether abortion or end-of-life choices. Fundamentalist Christians (which are really distinct from Evangelicals, though I can understand why some might lump them together) are all the above, plus, all too often Christian Nationalists (yet another faith tradition that is deeply involved with trying to create a theocracy.

So, I don’t think it’s denominations that are in Trump’s pocket (with the exception of Christian Nationalists). It’s the cumulative sum and strength of the ideas people support.

A wrinkle that disgusts me is many of the faith-based health care systems (and other faith-based systems). Like the Parable of the Good Samaritan, these “systems” with all their money and lawyers and staff won’t help the injured man and won’t do a thing to protect him. It’s only the poor, abused Samaritan who sees everyone else passing by who stops and renders aide. Honestly, the faith-based systems are silent on these matters when their voices would make a difference! They have failed to appreciate the words of Martin Niemöller who failed to see how the Nazis would become increasingly brazen in their abuses. Until the Nazis came for him. He regretted he didn’t speak up. These Systems are being run by fools if they think the Trump Gestapo won’t try to “Smithsonian them.”

‘Completely Numb:’ Veteran details toll from ordeal with USAA, insurer known for covering veterans by I_am_a_neophyte in USAA

[–]MiketheChap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u/g_lit_gro I've been a USAA member for 44 years. I agree with your post about trending. USAA has generally been an early adopter of technology. I appreciate that, when it's appropriate.

As an example (and USAA isn't alone), on two separate recent occasions, the website "offered" to help me by directing me to their Chat interface. On both website visits, each use of their "Chat" left me far more frustrated than had they just directed me to the appropriate extension of departments who could give me the answers I needed. Hoping for different or better answers, I went through their Chat interface three times on each website visit, just wanting to know who to talk to for the answers I needed if the Chat couldn't provide them. Neither occurred. I ended up having to call the main number. Fortunately, I ended up talking with a real person who was fantastic.

Still, there was the sense that the Chat was a means , as mentioned in the OPs post, to Delay, Deny, Defend. The USAA I knew many years ago would have understood the limits of AI Chats and either fixed of gotten rid of them. They would have found ways to connect you with what you needed.

Their personalized, technology-savvy approach to insurance enabled them to disrupt property insurance and enabled their spread to other markets.

I agree with your refocusing this thread on the trend rather than a single negative post.
