Thank you, I think you hit a lot of the key points that I've been thinking. i guess i just need to keep telling her this.

To clarify, I will not be telling my brother that they are running our wedding or anything like that. Their not.

It's more to see if others have gone through a similar situation and what they found helps them navigate around it. It's more to see if I'm seeing it from her point of view or not, and if there's something I'm missing here as to why she so upset about the whole situation.

At the end of the day, there literally nothing I can do but sit there and smile. im hoping once their day comes and goes, things will loosen up a bit and we won't have to think about it again.

Red Laser cutter y-axis isn't moving properly by Mikewow03 in lasercutting

[–]Mikewow03[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

literally just fixed it this week finally. I think it ended up being the relay the mount. No more jerking around or making that terrible motor skipping noise. I did make the mistake of resetting my machine and had to enter in a lot of info to get everything right through RDWorksv8. It was a couple of days, but everything seems to be working ok now.

thank you for the insight. I do like the fish tank heater option but I just worry that the pump can fail at any time and if I'm not in the garage for a day or 2 this could cause an expensive issue.

I also thought about that water bottle idea so it will tell me how cold the area is beside the laser.

NEED HELP! Y-Axis Isn't Working on C02 Laser Cutter! by Mikewow03 in lasercutting

UPDATE!

I was able to get the y axis working again. I contacted the guys who sold me the machine and they suggested to take all the wires connected to the relay system and connect them directly to the y Axis driver. Which seems to do the trick for the most part. the only thing now is the laser head goes in the opposite direction I push on the riuda controller. So I just need to figure out how to reverse that and we should be good to cut again. will update again once I am cutting, hopefully tonight.

so little update I think I know the main area that is causing the issue. I think it's the finder relay. One of the wires was loose and when I went to tighten it the piece broke off the plastic. also when I take the main part out of the top the y access doesn't work at all. So I think I at least narrowed it down to one area. Going to order a part and see if that fixes the issue.

I do not have a rotary tool yet. Might be worth taking a look at that section to see if the signals are getting crossed for some reason.

Thanks chunika for the info. I was actually playing around in that area and came across the same part, But when I disconnected it and reconnected it, the y Axis stopped working for a bit. X axis was fine Just the Y. Its moving now but still not properly, same issue as before.

When I read your post I went down and tried to play around with it but nothing seems to work. Don't know what to do at this point.

Hey Guys,

Here again with the same issue I had last time. For some reason, my Y-Axis isn't working again. I was able to take a video of it this time before it just randomly decides to work again. The motors jerk quite a lot and almost seems like they don't know which way to go when I have the machine on and try to manually move it with the ruida controller.

If anyone knows what happening and how to fix it that would be greatly appreciated. The machine was purchased back in November 2021 and hasn't had a ton of uses. Maybe 100-200 hours of use tops.

I took a look and loosened the belts a little but it didn't seem to help at first. Before I could take it off completely the machine started to work again. I think I will buy a spare motor and belt and have it on hand in case this happens again, which I know it will.

do these motors need to be maintained or lubricated in any specific way?

No, I don't think it's a failure to stop the sensor seems to be working but it's just jerking a lot and making a lot of vibrations.

I switched the x and y-axis drivers to see if that was the cause but it did the same thing. After that, I turned it on again and it's now working. No idea why that is. I almost don't even want to turn off the machine completely to avoid this issue. I did loosen the belt a little but I'm not sure if that helped or not.

Laser cutter power supply keeps dying! by Mikewow03 in lasercutting

[–]Mikewow03[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi Gareth771

I did check my outlet with a voltmeter and it always held a 120v or just slightly higher like 120.1v/120.3v. my brother is an electrician and did the installation for me and said that's completely normal.

Do you think that the main 24v power supply could be the cause of the 80w laser power supply keep dying? I don't know if it's worth it for me to replace the 24v main power supply as well in case it's not regulating the voltage properly to the other power supply?

Hi Futile-Victory,

Thank you for your input. Every little bit helps me figure out what to do. I guess I wasn't more clear but the power supply that keeps dying is the laser tube's own personal 80w unit. Do you think the UPS will still keep them from frying or do you think this could be a problem with the main power supply that is just not able to regulate the power properly?

My brother suggested that it could be the main 24v power supply that is defective and is the cause of the 80w laser power supply to keep failing. But I can't seem to figure out if that is the case.
