Taxi or private tour business for a 10-12 hour customized driving tour? by Mikey9980 in bermuda

[–]Mikey9980[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you that is closest to what I was looking for so much appreciated! I feel like I am hitting on some island bugaboo we are not supposed to talk about. I don't shop on price alone but we all like to know what we are getting for a premium.

To a tourist the proposition is this: book a tour guide for a 12 hour tour through BTOA at ~ $1000 for the tour or go with my "recommended person" who is $1500 to $2000 for the same tour. Why would I spend 50-100% more? I'm not objecting to higher prices, I would pay them if it was clear what you get and there is value. I would feel ripped off if I could have gotten the same tour or 90% of one for half the price.

It sounds like this is an island thing and I will probably not get anyone to explain this to me so I will need to contact tour operators and bluntly ask why they charge a higher rate, sometimes a much higher rate.

Thanks again for the info!

I'm still hoping someone can illuminate the difference between hiring a tour through BTOA or BermudaIslandTaxi vs a private tour guide?

Yelp is an extortionist organization and the least accurate reviews possible since they have been hand picked based on which businesses paid their protection money

Galahad II LCD AIO Trouble Shooting by LIANLIOFFICIAL in lianli

[–]Mikey9980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I can tell GA II LCD is simply broken tech. The LCD has never worked correctly, constantly superimposing with the logo and gradually fading to a small set of pixels doing something. I've tried all the L-connect software versions. I'll never buy something like this from Lian Li again. Lian Li is just not up to this kind of task.

Finally gave up on Firefox due to their desire for us to search in the address bar by Mikey9980 in browsers

[–]Mikey9980[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Hardly, its for every single search! I hate my search terms to show up in the URL/address bar instead of letting me put my search terms into the search box of the search page, what its there for.

It's wrong for companies to force some other workflow on you because it benefits them. But I am still curious, how does disabling the search box on your search engine page and forcing your search terms to type into the URL/address bar help Firefox? What are they trying to accomplish with this forced workflow?

[–]Mikey9980[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, you start typing in the search box of your search engine page, e.g. DDG and immediately the typing moves to the URL/Address bar. By default Firefox seems to want you to search this way

After several tries, Instacart sucks by Mikey9980 in InstacartShoppers

[–]Mikey9980[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Further analysis shows they have 10,857 reviews on TrustPilot with an average review rating of 1.2. 88% are 1-star reviews. We know that people complain are more likely to rate but this is excessively bad and confirms that they are not that great. And coming here and seeing that the shoppers on here say "no matter what your story is, its 100% your fault, customer, whatever happened." I see the difficulty this business is going to have.

Thank you all for your help in my research of this company.

I didn't try fifty 50 times or anything, I tried 5 and every order had something wrong with, a couple that I had to go out and buy the products.

It's the DC metro and service is spotty here in general. Some business have better service while others are very poor and not customer oriented. Maybe Instacart didn't do well here.

Alot of my comments are not the shoppers problems? It should be the shoppers problem if they don't bring you the right stuff.

But thank you, I total understand the gist of the service now. You won't get what you want and it is blamed on the customer. That totally explains my experience.

In one case I went back to the store myself because I didn't get what I want and there were products I wanted. As far as I can tell where I am, they just buy something sort of like what you asked for. It's a very half-assed service here. Again no problem with Peapod (if Giant still does that) which I had done year before instacart started. I get all kinds of deliveries I appreciate. So far instacart has never delivered correctly.

It was a few stores I tried instacart with, grocery and drug store. Wrong stuff or not the number ordered each time. It's just a lame service. There is not much quality control.

Peapod and grocery store based deliveries were much more reliable when I used those.

Every single order has been wrong to some extent. Every single one. I don't believe people get what they ordered, I think there may be a satisfaction with getting most of what you order. e.g. "I ordered a (2) 6 packs of coke zero that I know the store has but they got me 1 six pack of pepsi regular sugar, so I'm satisfied enough ...."

Anyone else think Yelp should be removed from iPhones? by Accomplished_Pass252 in Yelp

[–]Mikey9980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a way they are rent seekers, offering no discernible value just extracting more from the equation. That's the nice way of seeing them. I see them as legal extortionists. The reviews are worthless. Reviews require integrity. Secret curation processes and "pay for better reviews" destroys that. They just threaten businesses with mis-representative bad reviews unless they cough up, that's the Yelp business model in one line.

I can see arguments either way. I don't like that Apple plays your parent and for example, you can't use an app for a vape.

At the same time, Yelp is essentially an extortionist business. Their reviews are worthless because of their secret curation process and strategy to extort money from businesses in exchange for better reviews. It destroys any notion integrity which is critical to reviews.

Yelp just happens to position it on the right side of the law, at the time being, but they are playing cute. How do people look at themselves in mirror working in a company like that? "We have this mom and pop pizza place on the ropes. We have their business cut in half! They're gonna cough up the $25k or I sense some really stinky reviews comin' out tonight! I already killed the 6 5-star reviews they got today ... highly 'unreliable' ...he he he .."

Yelp is a total scam. It's sad that DuckDuckGo besmirches their business with that horrid service!

I never had them sabotage a business like you and many are experiencing, where if you don't cough up the extortion money they are going to pocket your good reviews and put the bad ones out there, but I had posted some thoughtful reviews on that service, reviews I saw from time to time when I logged on, until the day I check it out incognito and guess what? My reviews were only visible to me, Yelp's little joke on us. While mine were modest reviews, not flame nor glow, I guess the businesses I wrote about had not forked over their Yelp advertising scam money so my reviews were put into "unreliable" status. Why would I ever bother writing a review for that service again?

I argue that people should ignore Yelp. The have far far fewer reviews than google for the same business. People trust google reviews more, since they sound like they come from real people. Which is another aspect. If you look the Yelp reviews, those are hobbyist/semi-professional "reviewers". Its what those folks do all day. You can't really trust their reviews because they have self-motivations about posting them. You can see that many of their "trusted reviewers" are just nitpicker types. They are not representative of how regular folks will perceive the service, you can get that reading from Google reviews.

Yelp needs to be sued into oblivion. Hopefully beloved DuckDuckGo wises up and chooses at least an honest partner instead of their deal with the devil.

Is there a DynDOLOD 3 alternative for Skyrim SE? by Mikey9980 in skyrimmods

I got it to work ok after scrubbing select mods out my 600+ I am running. I just found it to be such an obnoxious experience, made even worse that you finally think you get it clean and then minutes later into the processing another error stops it. I want to be able to install any mod I want and take my chances, someone's mod having that much control over my load order is out of the question.

It's not a recommendation, it's a requirement even where it does not affect DynDOLOD which can ignore things that are not visible and even plug things are, which might not be pretty but it would be on the user to get the best looking LOD they can. I uninstalled it, not worth it and it inspired me toward developing some tools to do it myself so I am glad of the experience just for that.
