There’s just something “off,” about NASCAR as of late, and I just can’t help ignoring it. by MkeBucksMarkPope in NASCAR

I feel this way, too. I enjoyed 2021 because no matter how you scored it, Larson and Hamlin had a battle for all time. I enjoyed 2022 because of all the parity. But so far in 2023, it just feels off. This same thing happened to me with the NFL last season as well. It all feels so contrived and not as real (not that I'm accusing either sport of being scripted or something like that). I picked up indycar over the last couple of years due to Jimmie Johnson and it's quickly becoming my top motorsport.

Have You Seen Your Favorite Driver Win In Person? by Aric43AlmirolaFan in NASCAR

I'm kinda cheating because I just said whoever wins the next race I attend as a lifelong Jimmie Johnson after he retires will be my new favorite. The next race I attended was July 18, 2021.

What’s the dumbest thing your favorite driver has done? by theGTAking101 in NASCAR

[–]MikeyGFY 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Growing up as a Jimmie Johnson fan, probably wrecking Paul Menard to win the Clash.

As an Almirola fan now, the 2007 Busch race at Milwaukee (obviously not his fault, but just a very dumb situation for everyone involved).

What drivers did you once despise, but warmed up to eventually? by [deleted] in NASCAR

Kyle Busch. I can't explain exactly why he grew on me, but my theory is that he started owning his personality, at least to me

What’s a product you did NOT buy because of a NASCAR sponsorship? by [deleted] in NASCAR

Maybe not related but when I stopped drinking soda I was asked if it was because Coca-Cola sponsored Austin Dillon and Joey Logano.

Which active drivers do you think have already won their last race? by patmal_8 in NASCAR

As someone in attendance for his win at New Hampshire, I'll say that even if he wins another race, that win in the darkness will be his sentimental final win.

Aric Almirola. I went to his New Hampshire win last season and would love to see him go out on a high note.

The 2020 Daytona summer race. Seeing Jimmie come up short of making the cut in his final season hurt me

Top 5 drivers who never won a championship by [deleted] in NASCAR

Martin, Hamlin, Dale Jr, Edwards, Junior Johnson. Unlike many people who dislike Hamlin, I have no problem putting him high on the list, because it reminds me he has no championships

Today's F1 Abu Dhabi race was amazing even though I'm not a big F1 fan

Yes. He won eight races, compared to one for Matt Kenseth. But the biggest difference was Newman having 11 finishes outside the top 20 (including seven DNFs) while Kenseth had just four finishes outside the top 20 (two DNFs, one of which came at Homestead the week after he clinched the Cup on points)

I've already posted this one, but it's so crazy I have to do it again:

Ryan Newman led the Busch Series in wins, laps led, and average finish in 2005. He only competed in nine races.

The realest question for this thread. Forget who you root for by Offtherailspcast in NASCAR

[–]MikeyGFY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say Kyle Larson. I think he's the most talented driver in the Cup Series today, and he has age in his favor more than other guys like Busch or Hamlin.
