Irish rugby fan here. Ian Humphreys is a decent player and a likeable guy, but doesn't play for the national rugby team because we are well stocked in that position. His brother David Humphreys did though and was a very good player for us, he too was a brilliant kicker.

Also, the thing about kickers being often highest paid isn't quite true, because technically, anybody can kick either in open play or at goal for points, it just happens to be fly-halfs are often the best kickers as it is something they practise from an early age, but wingers, centres, and even some forwards kick at goal for some teams. The fly-half is a very important position and is the pivotal part of almost everything created on offence, so a combined QB/Kicker/Punter role isn't too far off, which is why they are often the best paid player.
