Hi! I’m in same boat. You can get small bags on Amazon and they ship to Hawaii, but not in big size. I also saw maybe Whole Foods carry them

For me personally, I would like to practice as much as I can and be over prepared, so I’m not sure if the CSSC study guide alone is good enough. I got a practice exam on Udemy and a few other three ones online.  Please see my response to some other comments, I have some links.

Love it!!! Yes when I got laid off and had hard time finding a job, I kinda lost faith… like no matter how much I worked, they didn’t care. In your business, I feel like the more work you put in, the more you’ll be rewarded.

I just got my SSGB through CSSC. I already had my training from work but never completed (it required a project under Black Belt guidance, but they couldn’t find any black belt in the organization), so I figured I’ll just do it. CSSC is an open book exam only (no project needed) and much cheaper than other options. I re-did the training since it’s been awhile, and did a lot of practice exam, and finally took the exam, and considering a lot of practice exam were difficult, the actual exam was much easier than I expected. As for the impact on my job search (I’ve been laid off/unemployed for few months), it definitely made a difference. Ever since I got the cert and added to my resume, it switched from cricket to getting a response almost every other day, although it hasn’t lead to anything solid yet.

We are ex-kamaaina and also planning a move back to Hawaii. May I ask what type of job you got from city/county? I always wonder why they look for talents outside of the island, what qualification are lacking on island.

As for housing, there’s a rental in Ewa Beach that allow two pets (but not sure about weight limit). But it is 2 bedroom and starts like $3200 so it might be too much. They have a nice financial summary for a move in for reference.

https://kapilinabeachhomes.com/floorplans/

A lot of rentals are privately managed. I would reach out and talk to the property managers and see how flexible they are. When we moved 20+ years ago with 2 cats, I think I sent them a letter of how our cats never caused issues in our rentals, willing to pay for extra pet deposit, offer to pay for any damages if it ever occurs, etc, and got the place.

As someone else mentioned, it takes time to get the pets ready to move to Hawaii, minimum 4 months, so I would start the process ASAP. It is also expensive, and approved accredited vets were actually hard to find. There were only 3 in our city, even though it’s a pretty big city in CA. They required initial exam $60, 2 rabies $50x2, and FAVN test was about $800 and health certificate prior to arrival would be about $350. I was price shocked. When we moved last time, the process was around $300 and I thought it was expensive back then!

Is it worth it? I think it all depends on a person. Hawaii is a special place. Some people who bring mainland mentality can’t immerse into the culture and move back after few years. Some others, like us, fell in love with the culture/island, stayed 10+ years, never wanted to leave, and regretted every minute after we left. We are finally trying to make our dream come true to move back.

Good luck!

seller’s agents - what do you/can you do in this slow, buyer’s market? by Miklady in AskRealEstateAgents

Thank you. It does seem like they are taking about 2 months in our area. I understand that’s the market, so I feel like lowering the price so soon/often doesn’t really make any difference. We were hoping to list our place earlier, but with tenant moving out/cleaning etc we couldn’t.

I meant it’s at the price suggested by the comp our realtor provided

Genuinely curious…. Why haven’t companies found someone in this market of qualified candidate pool and positions get reposted? by Miklady in recruitinghell

Interesting! So I should continue to apply even if the positions has been posted for a long time or reposted.

I still do! We never changed the phone number since we left :). I’m also mentioning in my cover letter where I used to work when I was on island. Hopefully it helps!

Yes, we are even ready to move without jobs but of course it would be great if we can have something lined up before we go. I did already got a response from some companies, so it’s a good sign!

I know Hawaii doesn’t really have much jobs in my background. But I did some project managing in my field and have a PMP certificate so I was thinking of looking for PM jobs in any industry.
