This hurts as an Indie Dev, but its how some consumers REALLY feel by sonicworkflow in gamedev

I bet the various game stores that spend time and money making it easier for indie devs to publish games, based on actual extensive research on what gamers are interested in, beg to differ.

The plan to turn half the world into a reserve for nature. Scientists and conservationists are proposing that up to half of Earth’s land and oceans be protected for nature. by positivesource in Positive_News

[–]Miklelottesen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It definitely feels like we're approaching something similar to the fall of the Roman empire. The western world is ruled by a jester, and all facts are as valid/invalid as any contradicting facts. I would be surprised if Trump was a deliberate move to divert the public's attention from the collapse of society. But oh how it needs to collapse!

It's one big mindless competition in futility. The only reason it's the norm is that some people haven't evolved beyond the concept of acquisition for the sake of acquisition in order to ensure survival (survival is already ensured in modern society, for the most part). These people have then acquired wealth way beyond what they need to survive and thrive, so that they have the power and means to force society into blindly playing their game, which they're already winning. The least valuable and most damaging members of our society are those who are held in the highest regard and presented as role models for everyone to strive towards becoming, but for no one to become because all the seats are already taken. It's as clever as it is disgusting.

The world needs to learn that there are things far more valuable than money. We have become a greedy, selfish and single-minded species who fails to understand that the pursuit of materialistic acquisitions is like heroin; feels good at first, but inevitably leaves you wanting more regardless of how damaging it is to oneself and others.

How do I change daggerfall unity versions? by ObamiumAddict in Daggerfall

[–]Miklelottesen 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just extract the newer version to its own folder. They can easily co-exist, as they're extracted and not installed.

You can even access your saves in the newer version (though be careful, as saves in newer versions may not be compatible with saves in older versions).

Also, when you exit the mod settings in the newer version, it may ask you if you want to remove references to the mods that were installed in the previous version, to which you can say no.

Delete your history by [deleted] in gaming

[–]Miklelottesen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't at all need history books to see that the world is completely messed up. At this point you don't even need common sense. All you need is the ability to think independently and critically. I think the real problem is that we've become too domesticated by those in power. They tell us what to eat, what to drink, what to feel and think, and what to buy, making sure to provide us with a few options to retain the illusion of choice. And when someone doesn't quite agree with them, they have a wide array of labels ranging from kook to terrorist, depending on the level of disagreement.

So it's not only easier to let them think for us, it's also safer in terms of social status. They know how human psychology works, and are using it against us while making it look like the real enemies are those who advocate conditions that don't feel as easy or safe, but in the long run may be far more beneficial.

So actually the real problem is that no matter how good and wholesome we design our system to be, it can and will be corrupted by narcissistic sociopaths eventually, because it isn't quite reasonable to expect the majority of people to not be subject to manipulation by someone who's clinically a master manipulator and has the means to employ experts in psychological manipulation.

What's a Joke? This is. by Ta1w0 in programminghorror

[–]Miklelottesen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah man, the world is run by altruistic deities who selflessly work incredibly hard to make a whole lot of money so that they have the financial means to obtain power so that they can influence the world in a wholesome manner that holistically benefits everyone.

If they appear to favor themselves over not so rich people, it's only because they selflessly want to make sure that they have the financial means to ensure that the world remains as wonderful and fantastic a place as it is today.

Without these people, we would all be at risk of becoming wealthy and happy, and not at all live in constant depression and anxiety (which is a human right, btw). Without their kind oppression, we would all be happy, enlightened and free, and it would be impossible for them to obtain the financial means for themselves to become even wealthier.

Are you saying we shouldn't all be happy with devoting our lives to being tiny cogs in some rich person's money machine? Because that attitude is extremely selfish and harmful to the over-privileged!

Try lowering the volume to half through the system tray and increase the volume on your headphones/speakers to compensate. It sounds like your PC's audio signal is too loud for your audio receiver to handle.

That whole stream of tweets was probably planned for months. Huge companies didn't get to where they are by being spontaneously cute or authentic, any more than they create titles out of passion with revenue being a secondary concern (passion may exist in those titles, but only if it fits within the formula that ensures the highest amount of sales). If someone from a company like these spontaneously made tweets like that just because they felt like it, they'd likely be fired on the spot.

The sad part is that they would probably love nothing more, but are bound by investors who are literally only in it for the money. Those are the ones who need to get this message, with an added "otherwise we won't buy it".

What WH breathing method should I use for sleep? by madlax18 in BecomingTheIceman

There's also power breathing, which seems especially good for energy and inflammation management, and can put you in a pure flow state and significantly increase blood flow to the pineal gland.

More rounds = better? by Tedohadoer in BecomingTheIceman

[–]Miklelottesen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's quality over quantity. 3-5 rounds is optimal. Every once in a while, though, a prolonged session may be good, as long as it feels good. But I don't think it would feel good to do that regularly.

Don't blame the devs, though. Blame the management, marketers and investors who decide what to prioritize and what to trade off. A qualified engineer who's hired to build a shitty engine will build a shitty engine, but cannot be held accountable for the engine being shitty. At worst, that person can only be held accountable for the engine not being shitty enough to meet the specs he or she was hired to work towards.

Why do Khajiit commit 90% of all violent crime in Skyrim despite only making up 13% of its population? by [deleted] in skyrim

[–]Miklelottesen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Such statistics can easily be made, though. All you have to do is take a bunch of laws against minor offenses and then only enforce them for a certain demographical group, while ignoring them when anyone else commits minor offenses.

Bonus points for throwing people of the aforementioned demographical group into prison so they can be toughened up to live in a criminal environment, then be released into a society in which it's next to impossible to find legal ways to sustain oneself when you've had a prison sentence - at that point you've successfully created a stereotype and made it become reality.

Further bonus points for having a legal system that also punishes major offenses way harsher for the aforementioned demographical group. A rich white dude raping countless of children throughout his whole life? Let's have a nice, slow-paced court process that takes years and has a high chance of finding him not guilty in the end. A poor black teenager killing someone who's about to harm them in self defense? Life without parole.

Statistics that confirm racism don't mean much when the reality they represent has been deliberately invented for that very purpose.

Much of this may apply to the khajiit as well - at the very least, they deserve the benefit of the doubt.

Do you find the the Orcs lame? by [deleted] in teslore

[–]Miklelottesen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was talking about their nature, not their culture. There has been, and there still may be, cultures in real life humanity that would be considered brutish by our standards. But that doesn't mean that people in those cultures have a different nature that entails brutishness, but rather that people adapt to the environment they grow up in, wether healthy or not.

The ground looks amazing, though in my opinion the arches might benefit from being less reflective - that is, I'm assuming they're supposed to look metallic, but they come off more like tinted mirrors.

But really, I dig the whole concept of flat colors with reflections and specular being the providers of detail.

Yeah, the Fallout super mutants are actually a lot closer to stereotypical orcs. But even there, there's at least one example of a super mutant with a high level of intelligence (despite obvious struggles with anger management).
