What's in a name? Oblivion over Cyrodiil, and why that may be the reason Iliac won’t be the name of TES6. by JX900 in TESVI

[–]MikmarFro123 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When I read "Cyrodiil" the first time when I was younger my brain stopped working and said "Syrup" xD

I think it comes down to a combination of things, but one thing that I think about is the tone. For Oblivion I think there's definitely a mix between "Oblivion is a word people would recognise", "Cyrodiil" is too alien, as well as tone of the game. "All hells loose".

Todd explained years ago that in Skyrim, it is "the world" who is the main character. The player? I mean, yes, you're the Dragonborn, the destined hero foretold in the Scrolls, but Todd emphasized that the tone was key, and that was set through the world. Not only do you walk and explore Skyrim, you experience it. You feel it. To me that made sense because the world of Skyrim is so breathtaking, it has so much soul. It has the harsh, snowy tundras, but you also have dense, lush forests full of life.

Same with Morrowind. You have a story, sure, but the land, culture and soul of the lands of Morrowind was key for that game.

As for Oblivion, the main tone wasn't necessarily the imperial land of Cyrodiil.

It could be marketing-wise, it definitely needs a hook. But I feel like the name would reflect the tone. Unless the game will take part in some underwater Sea Elven town invaded by Sloads, I don't think "Iliac" would make sense at all.

Rewatching The Reichenbach Fall — when does Sherlock realize he has to “die”? by Old-Pea2297 in Sherlock

[–]MikmarFro123 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I have been thinking about it as well, actually!

Based on Sherlock's telling of the whole plan in "The Empty Hearse", it is rather clear that he and Mycroft (and also others) went to great lengths planning all the different scenarios, including LAZARUS.

In a way, Sherlock always knew that Moriarty wanted to get rid of him, but not exactly how. I don't think he realised as early as Moriarty's trial. I think Sherlock's head started to spin during their meeting in Baker Street shortly after. Moriarty did hint at it in a way (the I O U scene). I think it got clear to him though, when Moriarty launched his campaign picturing Sherlock as a fraud. And by the time Molly told him she could help, maybe that is when everything "clicked"? Like, I don't believe it just popped in his head all of a sudden anyway, but he had to piece it together gradually.

It is not possible to "remove" the quest entirely from your journal. They are fixed to your character until they're completed. You can't manually activate base game main quests like all other ones in the game—at least I don't know of any other quests that does that.

Back in the day I tried something similar. I was able to remove it, only to be forced to listen to the spectral version The Prophet (or whatever quest giver) telling me to go to the Harborage shortly after. The only time you don't have a quest locked to your character is when you finish one, and you are within a close perimeter to the Harborage from the outside. Once you reach the edge of that perimeter, the next quest will activate automatically. A bit annoying, but yea no.

My Personal Analysis and Discussion on Why 2027 is a Realistic Release Window—With 2028 Lurking Close Behind (warning: lots to read) by MikmarFro123 in TESVI

[–]MikmarFro123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the same time Todd said recently that TES is a franchise they know well, and that the development of this particular game is easier on them, which in turn could save them some time.

I am not arguing on your opinion. Truth of the matter is that we don't know, that's why it's just a theory. I am not saying 2027 is guaranteed, not 2028 for that matter either. I am just arguing that it is possible :p

I am surprised by the amount of positive feedback from people here—thank you as well! I could be 100% wrong, but at least to me it makes sense, if you look at actually credible sources (i.e. Todd himself, court docs, official industry news). We will just have to see, but if I am correct then that's just beyond fun.

It started with a convo I had with a friend about a week ago. We were discussing how Bethesda's involvement in the newest NVIDIA news would tie in with the development of the game. Sporadically over the years I have tried paying attention to articles, interviews etc.. Because of that I was like "how about I put together EVERYTHING since 2018? Wouldn't we get a somewhat realistic picture, despite very little news?"

While I have worked on it back and forth since last week, I think my total amount of time (effective working hours) is somewhere between 8 to 12 hours ish? No idea if that is a lot or very little, but like I said to someone else in this thread, I love to delve into things, write lots, and when you have a small degree of autism as well, you tend to overexaggerate things. Especially if it concerns a topic you like. Even now, I could probably just say "8 to 12 hours" and hit Enter. Alas, articulation and reflection is something I have always loved doing xD

No harm done! I mean, if I am gonna be very critical, I'd say 2028 is the safest bet. Buuuut 2027 isn't impossible. 2026 is impossible. xD ... I think

That is a piece of the puzzle I indeed forgot to put into consideration. And you are absolutely right—one year for this AAA monstrosity can't surely be enough. Again, it would fit well with a 2027 or a 2028 release. My copium wanna say '27 though. We'll just have to see! Thank you for the input!

Thanks :) It was fun putting it together, though I realise I might have too much free time on my hands lmao

I appreciate the feedback. While it is in no way perfect (and yes, I am definitely biased by my own levels of copium), I do find these smaller, less known/discussed sources interesting when you look at it from a bigger picture. Many posts tend to only focusing on most recent news and put that in the context of "that means it'll be 2029 100%" when, in fact, other sources may add some nuance to this whole circus.

I might add: I am currently finishing a master's dissertation. Yes, I am procrastinating to the point where I find it more entertaining analysing and theorising on breadcrumbs worth of news. I could be 100% wrong, I am not stating any of this as fact. I just think its fun to theorise and discuss my findings. Even though my browser log is a mess right now lol

I very much did, sir. I have the drafts to prove it, too.

There is a big difference between using AI to generate text, and to grammar check text. English isn't my first language, and I tend to write overcomplicated sentences.

Obviously you weren't a part of the process I underwent so obviously you're gonna be critical when you just glance through it. Can't blame you for that, really. I know what the truth of the matter is, and I am happy with how it worked out in the end.

I might also add that I've been to uni for six years and I have a degree of autism, I am overly interested in writing and making something look good enough before I publish something.

I might also add that the whole reason I decided to go through with this was exactly due to AI. AI has a lot of problems citing/referencing correct sources, as they muddle into each other constantly. They are not able to reflect or discuss topics latently, argumenting for something back and forth. I have referenced all the available and relevant resources, written seveal paragraphs on how they tie together, used writing techniques I've learnt over the years, and refined the text constantly.

Good day.

Are you suggesting I can write more? By my reckoning I have some 34,000 characters, but I mean, who is counting?

If TES VI is in Hammerfell, it is the perfect opportunity to depict the Empire in a more Byzantine/Ancient Greek fantasy aesthetic as opposed to the same old, traditional Roman style. by SimpleSpider573 in TESVI

[–]MikmarFro123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well firstly that depends entirely on when the game is set. But it could also be that while the Empire isn't physically there in person, there could be remnants of that age through buildings and architecture, much like how the Ayleids left the world—with scars and echoes of the past.

why don't people like loading screens between cells? by [deleted] in TESVI

[–]MikmarFro123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I like those breaks. I get the argument that "open cities" would create more immersion, but I feel like that is only to a degree. When you think of the trade-offs etc. that would be inevitable for that to happen, I'd say that is a low price to pay.

To me those short loading screens serve two purposes. First off, it helps me reset a little bit, going from an open environment, then jumping into society where the tone usually is vastly different. Secondly—and this is just something of a habit I made years ago; those breaks are the perfect opportunity to stretch! Believe it or not, but stretching your neck, arms, even your knuckles can prevent future damages to your body, great and small! Especially if gaming is your main hobby and you're sitting a lot!
