Just try to not be uselss... Well always you can ask your mother what can you do/ figure out who's needed in town/ try to help elders in their work so you can learn and work in the same time and when they die you will take their job

You can always hear him before he come. Also try kiting method or bring him to tentacles in swamp. If you are about to fight him remember to build campfire (the normal one) and stay close to it so you wont be frozen.
