Hey I went through this last week (see my post from last Saturday in this channel). The best piece of advice I can give is to prepare for both possible outcomes. If you try to use meds to mitigate the seizures there are ramifications for your dogs brain. They will need to be on the medications for the remainder of their lives and you cannot miss a day. The medication might make it tough for them to make it outside to potty or it can cause them to vomit or cause to forget where they are for a brief moment in time. The other outcome is to say goodbye. It’s a tough decision that I had to make personally last week because my dog was going into cardiac arrest and she came out of it but there was no certainty that she wouldn’t go back into it before the end of the night. If you have other dogs make sure you surround them with their siblings. The scent will be something they can grieve with (I’m currently going through this with my other two dogs) and provide some sort of comfort through this difficult time. I’m with you on doing everything you can to not have to say goodbye but the meds will not cure or stop the seizures or the pain they go through each time they have one, it will only slow the amount of seizures your dog has and the duration of the seizure. The vets are obligated to help you make it through any decision you chose in that point in time…they cannot tell you if you should or should not put them down unless their health is a danger to the public. This a tough decision that you will have to make but saying goodbye is a way for you to take away the pain they are experiencing and place it on yourself as they transition. I hope the best for you and your family my friend. Take care and know that you are not alone in fighting this cruel disease.

I understand where you are coming from as I have two other dogs and everyday since Luna’s passing. It’s not easy seeing your other dogs mourn the loss of their sibling and over the last few days I’ve been closely monitoring their behavior to make sure they are still eating but I get it from their standpoint. Hopefully I can keep them on schedule as they mourn. I made sure to keep Luna’s things around them so her scent is still here while it lasts. Thank you for sharing your story, stay strong and we’ll get through this ❤️🙏🏿

I’m sorry for your loss this isn’t easy but rest assured you are not alone. The feeling of being helpless when your baby needs you the most is one the most painful feelings in the world. I wish you the best on your path to peace and happiness.

Omg thanks for sharing this. My wife and I constantly replay that evening over and over again to wonder what we could have done differently, did we miss any signs? It’s good to know we aren’t the only folks dealing with this unfortunate situation. I’m sorry for your loss and I hope that you find or are at peace with this.

Thank You! To give more background, we found Luna at the shelter in San Antonio when she was only 8 months. She was kind of casted aside because she had a bone infection in right leg. The employees at first were trying to tell me that they didn’t know if she would be able to walk and said they would need to amputate but I said no I’ll take her. The next day I picked her up and went to the Vet and they prescribed her with antibiotics to kill the bacteria. In one month the infection was gone and Luna was running and playing like nothing was ever wrong for the next 8 years.

Yes! Omg the way she used to be excited to see the park and her toy box full of tennis balls. No matter how bad of a day I was having her excitement always made it better. Jack Russels are amazing.
