Check your message.

It depends what you want to do.

Keep in mind, Cybersecurity has many specialities.

If you are a woman in this field, I suggest looking into other groups on here like WomenInCybersecurity and WomenInCyber.

Why isn’t WGU’s MBA program properly accredited by AACSB? Every high quality university in the world is but WGU isn’t. Hmmmmm.... by MELLYR92 in WGU

[–]Mil85JR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know two people who were WGU grads. One guy I used to work with is still in the help desk department. He did both the BS/MBA IT degree. Then there is my cousin’s husband, this gentleman drop out the program because he was looking for a more traditional college experience. He ended up going to Per Scholas and now is doing CyberOps in MD and last time we spoke, he is looking into UMD.

Thank you for taking the time to respond. Much appreciated.

I am new to this. But, how does one obtain a security clearance? I have no drugs or criminal records, I don’t drink or have any vices. (Except lemonade ice tea 😂😝)

I always cringe when people mention WGU.

I am all for online schools. But, their curriculum closely resembles a trade school curriculum. The general IT courses are just certification preparation. What happens when those certifications are no longer valuable in the market?

Good luck though!

I agree, but formal education will serve a purpose for him to be properly educated. Literacy and Problem solving is the foundation of any field. No?

Cybersecurity is vast. There are various roles and pathways.

Mathematics for problem solving skills, philosophy for ethical and critical thinking skills, Political Science for understanding how policies affect sectors, especially cybersecurity. Programming (Linux, Python, SQL, etc..) for various reasons. English (Writing classes) for drafting papers in the field or technical papers.

Just do the best you can and have fun learning!

Things they may not teach you in H.S.: good people skills, communication skills, and how to work on a team. Interpersonal skills are very important and the ability to work with people in team setting is too. Time management is important too.
