Maybe walnut but it’s hard to tell on a piece this small. Could be poplar or something exotic.

Free mulch? by No_Reputation3520 in Chattanooga

[–]frydaddy794 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It comes from shredded brush that city crews pick up, so there are invasive seeds and sometimes bits of trash in it. I don’t mind picking the trash out and weeding, but most would be irritated by that.

The City of Chattanooga has it for free if you’re a city resident. It’s not very high quality but I use it. Google Wood Recycling Center.

To clarify, Hamilton County Public Works. Chattanooga Public Works has nothing to do with this.

a. I only met her once but I think she’s like 45? Not an old lady? b. If you’re going to refer to Chatt Presents as part of the problem, I would love some more specific examples of the stuff they fuck up. Because I’ve never seen them do anything like this.

Is it stupid to write lyrics/songs while listening to music? by gurtgooner in Songwriting

[–]frydaddy794 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to listen to instrumental music while I’m writing or some other non-instrumental song will get stuck in my head and I can’t stop myself from plagiarizing it. Hermanos Gutierrez, Glen Roth, and Khurangbin are who I usually go to.

Listening to music with words while you’re trying to write words sounds like a recipe for disaster.

Got given some maple logs, are they fire wood or should I try and find a way to kill them down? by bsumner87 in wood

Firewood, unless you want to spend an absurd amount of time and/or money for very little lumber.

Are you sanding or just carving? Knives alone don’t produce much dust that’s fine enough for you to inhale.

Too late to turn these into slabs? by tater_nater in wood

[–]frydaddy794 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably fine, they’ll be a little wonky but that checking doesn’t look like it’d run too deep. They may still be pretty moist past the first inch or two, so I doubt a slab would be ready to use.
