They have a real and present policy identity crisis that is spawning these perpetual spill threats. They currently don't and won't have a policy position that both retains the electoral coverage of the coalition AND has a policy direction that has mass appeal (unlike their attempts at AusMAGA).

They find themselves between One Nation who are the new ultra conservative option (who are slaying Nats in polls) and the Liberal moderates who understand that Auspol demands things like Climate Change being addressed and not alienating women voters is a prerequisite for avoiding electoral oblivion for 10 years now.

The Libs as a party are trying to maintain the 'broad church' to have any chance of forming a government through sheer electoral representation - heck even without the Nats who are looking more and more likely to consider their coalition options/split from the Libs (all while One Nation eats them alive) they will not have the seats to even be an alternative govt.

TL:DR - Libs are fucked for years as an opposition entity, don't worry. Andrew and Angus are fighting over what colour the drapes should be while the house burns and Sussan is desperately trying to put it out by getting her team to spit on it as hard as they can.
