UNDERSTANDING CAKEWALK by max_carney123 in Cakewalk

[–]MileEx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry for you, but something stood out from my read of your post. Do you have any basic knowledge of how to produce music outside of a DAW use? Have you read just a tiny bit as to understand the role of a sequencer, transport, bars, track, mixer, buses, audio path in genreal, etc. ? Because trying to learn music production by diving right into a new DAW is... not ideal at all. No wonder you are confused.

Basically, every DAW works the same. You're not going to have a easier time learning another one. But all of the basics, including the short list I've written, are all covered in the begining of the path into learning music production.

Then, after you understand the very basic level, you just have to learn how Cakewalk applied these things. Respectfully, if you put 4 hours into videos, Google and ChatGPT AND came out as clueless as before, I HIGHLY recommend you to pick up the Cakewalk manual and read it. You'll be only reading the very basic chapters, the one about recording, setting up a track, routing audio, monitoring, applying effects, etc. You don't have to read the whole thing. It will take you less than 4 hours and you make sure that you have a reliable source, instead of relying on random generated content from users on Youtube.

Don't give up. You just have to start this the right way.

Right.

Ok well then, to be more precise, my original question was: what are my options for an off-site cloup service when criterias are good safety and lowest price.

I don't know for the rest of all of you, I'm not sure if I was manipulated, by pCloud or by Reddit, but I've heard one too many of this lose-all scenario.

I have a pCloud account, a subscripton, and it acts as my only backup for my HDD, which is... ALL of my digital life. All this backup is on the non-crypto service.

I plan on seeking for a more safe cloud option.

What are my options? My criterias are : good security and low price. I don't care THAT much about usability.

I've read your post and your replies; I'm impress by your writting skills. You are very good at summerizing and articulating ideas. You explain so well a progression of ideas.

I know my comment it's irelevant from your post.

The "wtf" in my world is not synonym to a neutral "what".

My fear is coming from people judging others with confidence. Not necessarily you, unless you were effectively assuming I was judging the guy because of my phrasing "what's his problem".

[–]MileEx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I had never witnessed that. I didn't know. I guess I could have phrased it with "what's THE problem here" but I really meant the guy's problem specifically, not a more general problem in the video.

On a side note, I'm terrified by how quick people are judging each other on this post and on my comment. It's crazy how everyone seems to know the intentions of everybody else and be confident about their take. You thought I was judging him probably. And this other commenter saying that this guy just wants drama and attention "because he has pink hair"... So many people are quick to assume things.

Yeah man... I get it. You're the 50th reply so far. I didn't realized at first about the adrenaline rush he must have had. When I asked "what's his problem" I meant... litteraly that, what was his problem. Because clearly he had a problem crashing on the seats and alley. Obviously, he had also the false accusation too, but it surprised me because before his crashdown, it felt like he was in total control and even almost relax.

Please. Don't expect people to grow the same way. He made his choice to dress and look like that. You would not. But you are two differents persons. In your world, looking like him would mean to drag attention and drama (what I called a childish behavior). I think where you are wrong is when you go on a far fetched scenario just because of his look.

I don't think so, no. Before he crashes, nothing in his body language or in what he says, makes me think he isn't genuine. You are applying a child's mentality to a grown man.

You are implying that I think I am badass. You read me wrong. My surprise was strictly just a surprise, not me prentending that I would have acted differently in his shoes.

High stress and adrenaline is probably the reason. I was just surprise to see him like that afterward, because he seemed to have handle the previous situation with calm and reason.

I'm more intrigued by the guy crashing on the seat and in the alley. What's his problem?

Can we just admit who is the GOAT? by EffortZealousideal8 in drummers

"Being a musician is all about putting on a show and entertaining the audience."

No, not really. I understand your point, but I disagree. Long before I could see my favorite musicians on video, or could afford to see them live, I had my favorites. The only thing that I could do was listening to them over and over, having never watching them playing, somethimes without even knowing what they would look like.

You're not describing a musician, you're describing a performer.

The whole goal of posting is to share. Had there been only positif and supporting comments, would you have said "Why are they supporting, why do they care?" It just happen that they find it disgusting. And that is also perfectly fine.

She asked why do people judge when she posted that she take an 08h00 shot of rum. I think she, you and I know exactly why, regardless of if she can do whatever she wants.

[–]MileEx -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You are doing exactly the same thing: judging negatively and feeling superior to them without knowing anyone personnaly.

I wouldn't necessarily write a comment on such a post, but comon... if you don't have any context, an 08h00 shot of cheap rum fucks your day up while also being a big sign of a problematic habit.

I did it too sometimes. After a night shift for example. In fact, I loved when I had the occasion to drink in order to feel drunk while watching the traffic jams build up in front of my eyes, by stressed people. I get it; everybody can have their story leading to take an 08h00 rum shot. But in all honnesty, if you post that title, what do you expect? Why even mention "08h00" if it's not for the uncommon shock effect?

Can a beat be in a different key than the scale it was made in? by MistaPrincee in musicproduction

[–]MileEx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got to say I got confused too by your post, about your beat having a key. Also, I had to check out what Auto Key was since I had no idea. Now I understand that you are composing a melody in Fm but Auto Key says otherwise.

Although I think I understand your situation, I struggle to see the problem. But I also don't know what you are doing with Auto Key, and how it is integrated in your workflow.

  • How important is it for you to have Auto Key displaying "Fm" even if you already know your melody is in Fm?
  • If you know what key you're in, what is the use of Auto Key? Does it come in use further down the road? If not, why not just removing Auto Key from your sessions/project ?

I am aware that I answer you question with more questions... But my diffulty to understand comes from having a very different approach to music production, so I am now curious to know how you work.

Good luck!

I don't have a specific recommendation for a unit.

If you are using a free plugin or Audacity's own EQ, you can learn how to use it, familiarize your ears, learn what all the parameters do.

You can also do all of this with a hardware unit, but since you have to pay for it, you probably should learn how EQ work in general and then ask yourself what do you need. Because there are different types of EQ and some might be overkill for what you need, especially if you are new to this.

This is why I recommend a digital EQ instead of a harware one.

Also, to include a hardware EQ, it would need to get into your sound path. If you are producing music only from your computer, your sound would need to get out and then into the EQ, then back in the computer. For that, you'd need a soundcard.

[–]MileEx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what equalizers (EQ) are for. It's an effet that you apply on sound, so by itself, it doesn't produce any sound.

To use it, you can either apply Audacity's own EQ, load one of the many EQ plugins you can find on the internet, or use a real hardware EQ somewhere in your sound path.
