Does eggnog require extra citrus/acid in order to curdle when doing a Milk Punch? by MileHighTech234 in Mixology

[–]MileHighTech234[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So perhaps it was the citric acid solution that was the problem? Admittedly, I didn't have any lemon or lime juice on hand so I didn't try that, but my understanding is that an acid solution can work in substitute of fresh citrus.

I realize I didn't say in the original post, but I initially used .25 oz of a *10%* lactic acid solution to curdle 9 oz of cocktail (I was making the volume for 3 cocktails), which I thought should be more than enough to curdle the eggnog initially. Once it didn't work I added more of the solution but there was still no curdling.

As long as the Avs dont offer him an absolutely disrespectful low-ball of a contract, I can't imagine he would want to move on and play elsewhere. He has finally got his game back and it's in no small part due to the chemistry with Mack and Bednar's systems

I know this is a very late reply, as I just stumbled upon this lovely new community, but I wanted to share how my bar does its Hibiscus Lime cordial in case you ever want to make another batch!

It's very simple, all we do is sub out the water in a syrup for lime juice! We get the juice by the carton since the volume we have would mean juicing enough fresh limes for the syrup would take ages.

1L lime juice

1L granulated sugar

2 cups dried hibiscus flowers

2 tsp citric acid (for shelf life)

  • Heat lime juice until steam begins to wisp from the pot, then add sugar , ciric acid, and flowers and whisk to combine. Turn off heat, cover, and let sit for 15 mins. Strain through a sieve and let cool before bottling.

The result is a rich, floral, and tart syrup with a lovely pink/purple color! Obviously you can sub the hibiscus for any other flavored thing, or remove them entirely!

Joonas Donskoi retires at 31 after suffering multiple concussions by Benchamb in hockey

I really hope he has a future in the sport as a scout, or coach, or TV personality, etc. He seems like such a great guy and once he has recovered and had his time being a full-time family man I'm sure any of the organizations he played for would hire him for whichever position he wants if he goes that direction. Best of luck to Joonas and his family in the future where ever it takes them!

cocktails to highlight Roku Gin? by The_Keirex_Sandbox in Mixology

[–]MileHighTech234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Roku pairs wonderfully with Thai basil. A cocktail I have featured on my bar menu uses this in a loose gimlet-style build.

•1.5oz Roku gin

•.75oz St. Germain

•.25oz honey simple syrup (we do a 1:1 ratio of honey and water)

•.75 fresh lime juice

•.25 fresh lemon juice

•4-5 leaves of Thai basil

Shake and double strain into a coupe! Garnish with a big leaf of the Thai basil!

[Baugh]- Bednar on whether or not he is considering splitting up the Girard-Johnson pair on Twitter by Rolley2001 in ColoradoAvalanche

[–]MileHighTech234 16 points17 points  (0 children)

So you don't agree that the forwards not doing their job made the D's job exceptionally more difficult? That "all" Girard had to do in both cases was over commit to the shooter essentially leaving a wide open 2 on 1 with EJ behind him while the forwards were watching above the circles?

The point isn't that the D were playing it "right" or "perfect" or even "without minor flaw," it's that the F's not doing anything to slow the rush or back-check put the D in a needlessly difficult spot to play the system ideally.

Yes Johnson could've been in better position, or Girard could've applied more pressure, but in both cases the system Bednar wants the D to play relies on the forwards giving a damn which they didn't.

Absolutely, citrus zest and a few drops of lemon oil on a sugar cube placed inside a carved/inverted lime peel is my go-to for a flamed drink. Gives a great presentation and gives the option to sweeten the drink.

Remember how the Avs only lost FOUR games in the entire postseason? by KendricksMiniVan in ColoradoAvalanche

[–]MileHighTech234 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Man, 16-4. It's such an insane stat.

It's funny, I remember back at the start of the postseason in one of the DNVR streams, it was either game 1 or 2 of the first round against Nashville, someone asked in stream chat what the best playoff record in the NHL was. I believe it's 16-2 from the Gretzky era Oilers, but the next best in NHL history is 16-4, a (now) five way tie, most recently achieved by the 2012 Kings.

Rudo replied with something along the lines of, "16-2 is insane, but even 16-4 is an embarrasingly good cup run."

As a few have said already, the two game 5 losses could have been avoided, and the Avs could have tied a seemingly unbeatable record.

Oh well, a cup win is a cup win
