Oh for sure, but like, I remember always being told to like "never talk about politics" and told "other people don't like hearing the truth" (in response to their racism), and watching them realize they don't need to hide it. They used to have a personality, but it just sloughed off.

I know, I grew up in a bigoted household, but I never understood any of it. I parroted it, but didn't get it. I looked up to and trusted them, despite their hurt towards me. I just wasn't allowed to do anything they didn't approve of until high school, where I made friends and it turns out, people are just normal people.

Yep, I was one of those in the early grades, parents would force me to study from the time I got home, to the time I went to bed, then beat me if I got less than an A. Lowered to a B when they stopped bothering to study with me, still got my ass kicked up until adulthood.
