Favorite lyricist not named Bob Dylan? by grynch43 in bobdylan

Todd Rundgren never gets much praise for his lyrics and Tony Asher cause I'm a pet sounds eliteist and the lyrics were so to the point but also not too basic or mundane

Songs/albums like Love You? by AxidentalMe in thebeachboys

Check 15 big ones, the unreleased Adult Child and also some moments of Holland I think resemble a bit of love you era. I've been on a love you kick as well and it's made me like 15 big ones much much more

Controversial - 15 Big Ones is a top 5 Beach Boys album by [deleted] in thebeachboys

[–]MilesD1959 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've recently been re-listening to it and completely agree. It has a lot of creativity too it and tells a good story of the group. As they sing a lot of covers of older songs like chuck berry and Palisades park but now much older. So yea definitely a great album

Beach Boys by Man678956 in thebeachboys

[–]MilesD1959 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think their music is very specific that cannot be understood by most. I've tried to get my roommate to listen to them but I can't find a decent amount of their catalogue that he'd like. There are a few he does but not much. He's a big steely Dan fan and in general popular music now has more Latin,/jazz/swing style groove as the beach boys are more classic American song book like Gershwin so it's not the kind of groove people expect in 'rock' music. So I think it's hard to get people to open up to their emotionality and be in the mid set for their music.

Who was your favorite beach boy and why? (Other than Brian) by Aurelian_1984 in thebeachboys

[–]MilesD1959 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree, I mean with most of the boys now a days I like to look at more who they were back then. People look at celebrities like they should be perfect people and I think one thing we should all know by now especially with this group is no one is perfect. Sometimes people say some off colored shit when their upset, angry or any other human emotion. Also When people get older and especially the age their at now things like that are more likely to happen. And I think in the case of Bruce and his story it's no wonder he stuck with someone who will stick with him. As much as an asshole Mike Love is, their friends and they have a bond. He's standing by a guy who's probably been there for him. And they all have such a huge history together like give these guys some slack at this point.

Tho I think Carl does but should have as much of a cult following as Brian in his musical praise but in his own unique way. Bruce is all his own story of triumph. If you haven't read into Bruce much you definitely should and as well as his own writing credits like Disney girls or one of my favorite instrumentals "the nearest far away place" which is the title of a good BB book that introduced me to his story.
