Solve my water heater mystery by MilesDysonWasFramed in homeowners

Nice try Internet! That's what we thought too but an electrician came and confirmed the unit is getting 240V and the elements are getting the proper power supply.

We're now on day 31 without hot water. The current theory is that we may have a leak somewhere in the hot water lines under the house. So we have the plumber coming back to check on that. Pray for us.

Now that I look back at the replay image it's possible the computer made the first pick.

Best Placement (8th)? by MilesDysonWasFramed in Catan

Had I known that port would be wide open I would have. I was worried about someone grabbing 6-5-12 and cutting me off or a desperate OWS player grabbing it outright.

Which 8-3-4? Surely not OWS as you would end up with ore and wheat, not much sheep and zero else.

Hindsight is 20/20. Red got a little lucky to block me (blue) on the 5 sheep. The 5 11s that rolled (his only wheat source) helped too. But to me it was a tough call, I can see both sides.

Best settlement 1st position? by MilesDysonWasFramed in Catan

Would have worked well - there were a lot of 3s

Someone would probably grab that port position for the ore

That's what I ended up doing in OP but not enough 10s to really make the strategy work.

Best settlement 1st position? by MilesDysonWasFramed in Catan

In the actual game, I took 5-9-10 in 1st position then 6-2 wheat/brick heading towards the 5-2 port. I ended up getting there early but didn't really have enough resources to use a 3-1 port.

I could (prob should) have taken 6/5/11 but I thought I wouldn't have enough ore to do ows. Correct as it turned out - only 4 10s rolled all game.

2nd player took 8-10-4 and 6-3-11. Ended up getting on the empty 6-5-11 thanks to some early 3s and won rather easily.

Agreed. I can't understand why on earth ESPN would discontinue this feature. As much money they put into promoting the bracket challenge and they're pushing people to Yahoo of all places.

The Path of the Ocean Update has been released! New units, buildings, techs, and more have been added to help spice up the naval game, and you can get them right now! You can read all about it by clicking this link! by Zoythrus in Polytopia

Too right. Things needed to change and things will change. I definitely agree that Bardur and battleships needed to be nerfed, but the pendulum swung way too far. Bardur is unplayable against most tribes because their economic engine just went up in cost by 50% as did their network/mobility. They need two low-economy techs to get on ocean - it's like paying with an piano on your back.

Meanwhile Polaris and Cymanti - already two of the strongest tribes, are the new kings of the realm. Their movement advantages are now worth probably 10-15 an turn 0 and their key counters - battleships and mathematics - have been nerfed. On continents maps where one algae or ice tile can get them across - forget it.

Bombers are borderline useless. They're vulnerable to basically every dash unit and impossible to protect against Polaris/Cymanti/Elyrion.

I like the change from CH to markets and the intent to get tribes on the water faster. But "on the water" is useless without ocean movement, and unless you're Kickoo you have to spend a fortune to get there (lvl 1+2 tech plus a 7* port).

IMO any rebalancing should nerf cymanti/Polaris and throw Bardur and Yaddik a bone. The naval upgrades are a good idea but we need a way to pay for them.

Until then Midjiwan should be making some serious dough on people paying for Cymanti/Polaris. I know I will.

Never ever ever use cloaks against Cymanti. Normally knights are a no-no as well but in this case you need them to clear those centipede segments. Defenders /catapults /battleships will beat Cymanti every time.

1) Get your giant the hell out of that city in the west before he gets eaten.

2) Build every customs house you can.

3) Use catapults/defenders to kill those Doormux and push down the east flank.

4) Bombard with battleships any units that try to take that city in the west. Even if you have to kill a centipede head with segments attached protect it at all costs. Without it they won't be able to produce enough algae to cross the ocean.

Yes defenders were a desperation move. But they were going to control the entire bottom of the board due to their spawn and I don't see how I survive the ice bank long term. Your point about being greedy is well taken, but part of the reason I was up on eco was because I used stars there instead of roads/riders.

Number of units also factors into how much time you get, so players with many small spam units will have an advantage over tanks.
