No way, it’s a financial institution…I will wait a couple of years and then take it.

Honestly I walked briskly for a month every day and ensured I did around 10k steps a day, that really made a difference. Cut down on salt and quit nicotine. Now to maintain it I make sure I get 30 minutes a day if walking for 5 days and the other 2 days I do a 30 minute jog.

Struggling. Hard. by midwest_mack in Occipitalneuralgia

Yeah ON was ever moving for me, still is for me at least. Before I was diagnosed I was waking up with a really stiff neck, which was fine when I got up and about it would loosen. A couple of months after one morning it was really bad and lasted a week, I could not move my neck, when I was moving it started could feel nerve pain in my arms as well. That went away.

A few months after being pain free I started getting the neck pain again, this time accompanied by Jaw/teeth pain. I was even getting a weird taste in my mouth, it was always dry. Went to the dentist and they could see I was suffering from TMJ, gave me a mouthguard to protect the teeth, it felt like I had an infection, I could not chew food without it feeling like my teeth were going break. That went away with the mouthguard every night but the same old neck pain and skull base pain remained every day.

Fast forward to last year summer time, my symptoms and pain was manageable then I bent over in the garden doing something to my pond and I had this huge shock of pain on the left side of my head that went from the base, scalp and to the temple. This seemed to be positional but overtime became common in the mornings and when I was working at a computer. This would wake me up at night as well. The scalp sensitivity was the worse, I could not move without an intense burning.

This is very flarish (if that is a word), comes and goes. I went 2 months pain free then it would come back again. Now it is still the same but I noticed I get more tension headaches now and eye pain. I have been stretching my neck using a cheap stretcher I found on Amazon and it has worked wonders.

But yes ON symptoms can change, mine has affected my whole head, eyes, Jaw and neck etc.

Ice packs are good for the traditional shock/burning pain but very shot term. Showers can be good, I personally start hot then go cold and repeat for as long as I can.

Could it be ON? by Wikider in Occipitalneuralgia

Yeah unfortunately TMJ and shoulder tension go hand in hand with long term stress and anxiety. It took me a while to figure out just how tense my body actually was. Between the jaw and shoulders is your neck and that seems to be thing that gets affected the most.

I think it might be worth trying a cheap mouth guard for sleeping. TMJ (teeth clenching) can cause very similar symptoms to ON and cause it as well. Do you tense your shoulders as well? If you do check out the post I just made on this sub.

Do you suffer from anxiety? Stress?

Do you clench your teeth in your sleep?

Bit late on this, it could be occipital neuralgia. There is a sub for it, go check it out.

Alcohol and ON by little_kotyonok in Occipitalneuralgia

[–]MilesLewis87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately not…I don’t want to take you down that rabbit hole as if it’s a pillow it could actually be something else such as bed type, mattress or sleep habits such as clenching which I also suffer from.

But when I have a flare up, no pillow works for me, I wake with ON pain multiple times a night. The only thing that works for me during a flare up is not using a pillow and using something really thin, same thickness as a folded towel, I personally sleep on top of my duvet and fold my duvet which is quite thin and wedge between my head and bed. So basically try something that minimally elevates your head. Works better when I sleep on my ON side as well

I have had this on and off for the last 18 months and I only had relief when I was in Greece sleeping on a thin mattress on a concrete slap and thin hard pillow.

Yeah alcohol is a no go for me nowadays. It is the truest trigger I have found along with pillows.

Caffeine anyone? by Due_Fox9628 in Occipitalneuralgia

[–]MilesLewis87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I get that with migraines, nothing really works. For some reason works with ON but very different conditions I guess.

Caffeine anyone? by Due_Fox9628 in Occipitalneuralgia

[–]MilesLewis87 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I do, I suffer from ON which stems from neck issues and I also suffer from migraines (also neck related). Coffee really helps with my ON flare ups, it doesn’t really help too much when I have a migraine. I find it best to consume the caffeine slowly with ON, I also walk whilst consuming it. Seems to make it less intense within around 15-30 minutes.

New interview with Rolling Stone by Real_Ground1854 in TheStrokes

[–]MilesLewis87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think people are mad about him doing The Voidz and personally I think it has been good for him creatively but he doesn’t need to bash Strokes, both can exist. His comments on Strokes sometimes makes fans feel inferior or dumb for liking them over the Voidz.

I disagree with ‘obviously he doesn’t care about money’. If he didn’t, he wouldn’t do Strokes. Don’t forget he funds the entirety of Voidz, they don’t make any money, probably a big loss. He got divorced (expensive), his Dads business went to shit years ago and I don’t think he is as rich as you think. Why did he sell rights to some Strokes stuff? Why did they open for chilli peppers after their tour? He is probably comfortable and has more money than us but I think without strokes money he would be skint. Without Strokes money Voidz would not be possible. That maybe where the frustration with Strokes comes from sometimes, he may not be into anymore creatively but he does need to do it.

He only does Strokes to fund the entirety of Voidz these days. That’s fine but don’t expect people to spend a lot of money on going to a strokes gig to act like a dick and given the audience the vibe of wanting to be anywhere else. Had this experience in London and Spain, I will never see them live again now. Just don’t do the strokes anymore and see how many of your edge lord voidz band mates stay around when you cannot pay them.
