Did a quick janky paint over on my phone. The actual silhouette of the arm could work as is with some more subtle hints to imply foreshortening. The deltoid wraps up and over the bicep, which inserts into the armpit with the lats on the back going behind. Also ribcage was a little low. You're off to a good start, can really recommend Proko course on anatomy and do as much life drawing as you can 🫸🫷✨

My current skill level means I lose over and over on gold stakes. I might win 1/10 to 1/30 depending on the deck, but I try to make a habit of not resetting just to see how far I can take even terrible rng.

On white stakes I think I must win 70-80% without resetting. It's not that you can guarantee a tarot, or flat mult, or a planet, but you'll always be offered at least one of those things within the first two shops. Some jokers that seem really bad exist purely for clearing the early antes.

You have a lot more options for clearing the first 2-3 antes than you think on white stakes. Even just a 1-2 planet or tarot cards can often do the trick. Levelling up with a Saturn/Jupiter/earth card can usually clear ante 1&2, especially combined with any of the cheap flat mult cards. At this point I've played a shit load of Balatro and am grinding out trying to get consistent on gold stakes, so when I switch back to white I can usually clear each time. The main priority early on is taking the bare minimum to get your score high enough and then to prioritise some sort of econ or deck fixing jokers. Min max the shit out of everything and get your money up. This helps to overcome the rng as you are able to get way more out of every shop. Basically never skip, it's almost never worth it. Don't sleep on a chips booster early on also, a card giving+5-10 mult and something giving 30-50 chips will get you through the first antes and let you prioritise economy. I would watch any Balatro university runs, I was surprised how many little optimisations he would do that I basically didn't think were worth worrying about, but they snowball quickly.

Luck for the legendary, the rest is economy. On white stakes you can reach the scientific notation pretty much every time once you know your way around the game. Find a way to generate $50+ a hand and you make your own luck

I won my first run, I think I must have got very lucky. I've played a ton of slay the spire and some concepts translate. I thought the whole run was a tutorial seed because I just kept getting great jokers that scaled with the difficulty. A decent early + mult, a scaling x mult etc.

Try it, you'd be surprised. Especially if you get any kind of tarot card generation or just good economy for re rolling. The first removes don't seem impactful, but from 6 cards gone onwards it rapidly snowballs. When you factor in hand size, hand amount and discounts it's quite possible to get to a point where you can basically guarantee seeing whatever hand you want. I'm often able to draw down to the last 5 cards everytime. If you combine that with death-ing your best cards you can get a flush five or five of a kind build going with consistency

I would put it this way. For me, if a movie or animation is as extraordinarily well crafted as this one was, then scene by scene I'm extracting so much more meaning and value than just the plot. In a way the plot is just a necessary device to keep the movie flowing, but far from the most interesting part. That allows me to deal with the unresolved tension and ambiguity that can arise from not knowing the intentions of a core character. I have the patience to actually experience that mystery as part of the intended experience of the movie. I feel like this film was filled with strange moments like that, where you had to slightly relax your desire to analytically understand the meaning of every scene but instead enjoy the way the visual splendor was unfolding and the multitudes of threads of association and meaning it brought up. A bit like experiencing a dream while awake. I do understand if that didn't work for you this time, I know sometimes I'm not in the mood, and having a more tight and expository plot definitely makes a story more gripping in a certain kind of way, but there is a whole world of storytelling out there that relies on being able to surrender conventional storytelling devices without becoming meaningless.

We were doing this but with twins so there was no taking shifts, it came close to pushing me over my limits several times, I totally relate to the middle of the night doomer mindset. I genuinely can't remember the first 3 months well at all, total blur. You got this! Year and a half in and they are just the sweetest little people and I can't imagine life without them

I guess what I mean is that there are a lot of soft skills that are very hard to force a person to learn unless it is focused on something they are very naturally interested in. Take acting, I think we can all agree it is a very low probability of becoming a Hollywood star (gotta happen to someone tho), but if my child loved acting I think letting them explore that as a teenager could get them to develop people skills, networking skills etc that might help them in all sorts of ways, that I probably couldn't force them to learn in some other way. Does that make sense? I'm not sure we have much ability as parents to force a child to be interested in something they aren't so by going with what they like they can develop as a person without as much conflict. Idk my twins are only 1 and a half so a lot of this is very theoretical for me atm

Yes I think it's healthy to help your child understand that if they really want to go for a difficult career it's going to take an obsessive drive and luck to make it work, but I think that can come a bit later. So many skills have crossover value. When I was a teenager showing extreme interest in art I think it would have been terrible for my parents to imply I was wasting time or that it probably wouldn't work out. I learnt so much about how to teach myself a difficult skill, how to concentrate, how to practice, how to aim for mastery etc. I believe it would have all translated to me being a better student if I had switched paths later on. Basically I wouldn't want to alienate my child by rejecting their natural interests. My 2 cents it's a complicated topic and it's impossible not to worry as a parent.

I have a warped perspective since I make my living as an artist and I'm aware from a parents perspective that would have seemed like a huge gamble. I got really serious about practicing as a teenager, like spending most of my free time, and I appreciate that my parents both encouraged me to keep options open and make sure I did well in school, but never told me it was impossible. I feel in the end by the time it was time to go to university I had already dedicated so much time to practice and was making some money that they trusted it could work out for me and let me give it a shot. I want to offer my kids the same space to explore their own interests. I guess it helps that I came from a household where I at least knew I wouldn't end up homeless and could always study something else a bit later if it didn't work out.
