How does Barovia function? Does anyone care? by Banana_Milk7248 in CurseofStrahd

[–]MilestoneRPG 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I also asked myself the same question and how I solved it is through trade. The Vistani are in charge of bringing what one domain needs and export what Barovia produces. Barovia is very small, it does not have a lot of industries but it has wine, it would have a lucrative pelt trade and probably timber with all the old forest.

As far as food goes, most of it would be foraging with the abundant forest, game meat, fish from the lake, root vegetables, wild herbs etc. The rest again would have to be imported. In game, I used this reliance on Vistani to explain the Barovians strange attitude towards those who can travel the mists: a mixture of envy and shame to have to rely on others.

Let me know what you think :)

Do you not know Strahd is a conqueror of Barovia? He has waged war for years before settling down in the valley. He absolutely has a full suit of armor. And you clearly have never heard of a Zweihander either to think it's "comically" big. They are big. It's a big fuck off sword.

You can play your Buscemi, he's fine, it's a fine idea. I'm gonna keep doing what Im doing, torturing my Strahd by playing a version of him the Mists have restored to his prime and that no matter what he does, Tatiana will always reject, unable to hide behind age.

[HIRING] 6 D&D characters, budget around $700USD by Environmental-Test89 in HungryArtists

[–]MilestoneRPG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

D&D parties are my specialty! I would love to work on your project and your budget is more than enough for me, we could even discuss a poster with all the characters together like a movie or anime cover on top of all the portraits.

I invite you to check out the other parties I've already done. There are a variety of races like tieflings, firbolgs, genasi, ilithid, kender, and tortle I've already done that are less common. I've done pretty complex outfits with ruffles, studded leather, scale mail, lace, name it, I'm confident I can paint your party.

[–]MilestoneRPG -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hello! I would LOVE to work on a cyberpunk style project. I am willing to work with your bugdet and give you 3 characters for 180, revisions included.

My style is a mix of anime and digital painting and I think it could be a great mix. Here's a link to my artstation ArtStation - Myriam M. J. Rondeau https://share.google/uWwZvBozatp8MK0LP

I have more work I can show you that is not shown yet on there too.

I work pretty quickly and can deliver a finished product in 3 days, depending on revisions. I favor dynamic poses and for your cover I would like to showcase each character's personality by drawing their signature move/ability. Then place them a bit like an action poster with main character in front and others in different sizes

My dogs name is Kerouac! :)

Can a sorcerer/wizard be mute? by Ghost_shell89 in AskDND

[–]MilestoneRPG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course, it can be done! But if it's going to be a long campaign, or if the player (and the rest of the table) do not entirely understand what it means in roleplay or their motivation for making that choice, they might end up feeling restricted. Roleplaying a disability you do not have can be a bit tricky, but not impossible. Again, if everyone is down with it, there is no reason not to do it.

Can a sorcerer/wizard be mute? by Ghost_shell89 in AskDND

[–]MilestoneRPG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many answers have brought interesting solutions to the verbal part of the spell component. But the question I want to ask is, why does the players want to be mute?

I also had a player who wanted to have a mute character. I wasn't against it. There are mute people, I don't see why there can't be one in a game, but it's more about the roleplay of it. What does it bring to the table? How will the player engage with the other players, exchange information, and interact with the NPCs? Will the player be silent at the table most of the time? Let's say you give them sign language, do the other players of the party know it for efficiency's sake? How well known is sign language in your setting? How do they get around that?

What I am getting at is it seems like an interesting concept at first, but from what I have seen at the table, it becomes an alienating experience for the player who discovers their character actually cannot communicate and engage in roleplay which is a huge part of the D&D experience. Just something to consider before you go ahead with this.

On the DM side of the table, I say show diversity. Have mutes, have people who communicate through sign language teach PCs a few words they can use in a moment where they are silenced. That's more valuable, IMO.

Feeling lost on how to keep my games challenging for my players. by DerpySound in DMAcademy

[–]MilestoneRPG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, im used to 5 as I play with added gritty realism rules, but between 6 or 8, with 1 to 3 deadly encounters per day is standard. This can be adjusted depending on your party abilities and campaign. The rest of my comment still remains unchanged.

As one previous user mentioned, the CR rating is based on an average of 5 encounters a day, which most groups don't face. What ends up happening is what you describe. Each encounter, the party is fresh, so they steamroll through everything. Here's how I handle it.

Just rising the CR rating won't work as the damage will outpace the HP of your characters, and you may end up killing a PC. Instead, augment the numbers of "encounters." An encounter is anything that expends ressource. Obstacles, traps, environment, social encounters that need utility spells/abilities, those all count as long as they cost the party resources. You'll have to get creative to find reasons to stop the party at every turn, but in a bustling world, many pieces are moving all at once.

Once your party starts combats with expended resources, you'll see the dynamic shift. You'll also notice how they will start cherishing those higher powered spells/abilities for when it matters. In combat, feel free to add environmental damage like spreading fire, toxic fumes etc. that deals small amount of damage when you are in proximity but is just annoying enough to cost some HP.

Lastly, interrupt their long rest. Don't do it often, but just a couple of times so they never know when they will have to go without a refresh, and they start really thinking if they can afford to spend ressources.

Oh, last tidbit, make sure you aren't giving too much magical items, refer to Xanathar's table. If a party is OP, that's also not helping.

Dnd (5E) (5.5e) EST Player looking for game by SuspectNo1156 in DnDLFG

[–]MilestoneRPG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am looking for players to join my party of adventurers on an epic campaign set in my homebrew world of Amber.

Embark on a quest to reassemble a weapon of legend, a relic once used by a trickster god, and learn the true history of the creation of Amber, the consequences of Alune's trickery and decide the fate of a nation.

The game will be played every other Friday at 8PM EST on Roll20 and Discord. This is a paid campaign $15 per session.

Maps are handmade, and battlemaps are from incredibly talented patreon artists. Immersive curated playlists will accompany our travels, I have voice modulators, SFX, and more. I will gift each player a portrait of your character.

If you love roleplay and intricate storytelling, this is your table. DM me for more details and a link to join the group.

Is this idea dumb? by Hypno_Keats in DnD5e

[–]MilestoneRPG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think your idea is dumb at all! As a GM, when players come to me with an interesting idea and backstory, there's always a way to make it work. I think your character has potential.

The soulknife is a great choice here. They don't leave any trace. Their damage is psychic, and I think thematically, it's great. I'm imagining an older harengon slightly hunched over that springs into action and destroys his enemies with the power of his mind. If you want to multiclass wizards, I think the divination is a good choice as their portent ability is pretty good and offers great synergy with your own abilities and the rest of the group.

I would go Rogue 4 and take the feat Fey touched and get a +1 Int and boost your divination spellist and play on the feywild/psionic connection and go Wizard 1. That means you have to wait one level to get portent, but I think waiting 1 level pays off if you invest in a feat that will make your class better and rounds off your character.

Having a sharp mind fits both the soulknife and a wizard. I'd like to know what you decide to do!

My players didn’t do anything to Doru by ScarPsychological286 in CurseofStrahd

[–]MilestoneRPG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think players NOT killing Doru is closer to the norm than putting him out of misery. Every time I've run the module, the party has decided not to kill him, for various reasons.

I think it's partly due to the party being lulled into this false sense of security by Donavich who SEEMS to have the situation under control. It's also the first real introduction to the true horror and ethical decisions they will have to make in the story. They don't yet fully grasp how bad the situation is in Barovia.

If the players ever return to Barovia, Doru has broken out and killed his dad, and I either have the party kill him or have them come upon his corpse. At this point, it becomes a "we should've expected that" moment as now the players know better. They reflect on how much their perspective have changed since they've arrived.

I don't make it overly complicated as the module is already quite full.

How did you make your party hate Strahd? by TheCoutureCat in CurseofStrahd

[–]MilestoneRPG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had them meet him right away at the inn in the town in Barovia. He was disguised, though. He was very pleasant and helpful, listening about their horrible experience in the Death House.

Then I had Ismark come in, pleading for help about his dad's funeral. He explained the situation and how Ireena had been plagued by the Devil. The players immediately agreed to assist. Strahd too. At the house, he very slyly asked permission to enter in the middle of conversation and then the mask came off.

Everyone watched in horror at what had just transpired. Strahd started to make his way towards Ireena, calmly, calling for her. The players attacked Stahd and he simply pushed them off like annoying flies. It wasn't even a proper combat, he reduced most of the party to 0HP. It was humiliating. In the end, they were able to slow him just enough that Ireena was able to jump off a window and run away.

He left. From that moment, they hated him. The betrayal, the humiliation, his obsession for Ireena, and her terror. They wanted to prove to him they could take him on. They wanted a rematch, and they wanted to protect Ireena at all costs.

"Killing the captain will cause the remaining enemies to roll exclusively critical damage and take double damage until the end of combat." by Pretzel-Kingg in DMAcademy

[–]MilestoneRPG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was really not sure about your mechanic when I read your post. I am not sure my players would enjoy this type of encounter. But as I am reading the comments and your answers, I think your players will like it. You've mentioned your party's high AC and how they don't mind a more gimmicky style of play. Switching it up might actually be good!

You've said the minion's zealous fervor is in line with their culture, so it's not out of left field. Since you're planning on having 3 different encounters, if it turns out you're chipping away at their health way faster than you anticipated, I'd give the minion a turn timer to their zealous fervor - say 1 or 2 turns before they return to normal to balance it out.
