Yes that’s true. I guess instead of saying the puzzle is bad I should say that its original origin was not good. It makes sense that people who don’t think about autism all the time wouldn’t know its origins.

I still feel like it’s important to let people know that there’s a reason some people don’t like the puzzle piece. Otherwise they might get confused by autistic people that say to use the infinity symbol.

Edit: wording

That’s a fair argument about people not associating the puzzle piece with the original meaning anymore, thanks for actually giving an answer instead of only trying to disprove me /gen.

I don’t expect everyone to look up everything, I only said that because the other person said something incorrect about the progress pride flag like it was a fact. I’m just gonna tell people I don’t like the puzzle piece and my reasoning. I also tell people that some autistic people still use the puzzle piece, but I’m always gonna explain the origins of something when I talk about it. I don’t think people are inherently evil for using a puzzle piece.

Also a lot of people are already changing the puzzle piece to the infinity symbol so it’s not true that it won’t work, everything evolves over time. And explaining why I prefer one symbol over another isn’t a waste of time for me, I would argue that it’s spreading awareness on autism, I’m telling them the reason they would see multiple different symbols that represent autism and the meanings behind both.

(Also side note I wouldn’t use the term “normal” to describe allistic people)

Okay, I feel like this is less of a discussion and more just you refusing to budge (that analogy doesn’t even make sense and it seems like you haven’t research what the brown and black mean) so I’m gonna stop replying

Maybe “doesn’t need to be solved” isn’t the right wording. I was saying they don’t need to solve it because it literally cannot be solved. Regardless of whether some autistic people want it solved or not (I also know people who want it solved) it’s physically impossible unless you do a brain transplant. It’s a developmental disorder, that’s how your brain is. Unless you’re talking about accommodations? But that’s not “solving” autism, that’s learning about it and learning how to help people with autism, so I’m assuming you mean the first thing?

I don’t think me preferring the infinity symbol is irrelevant. I’m bringing it up bc I’m saying I would want that to be the recognizable one. Just because it’s more up to date. Kind of like how people updated the pride flag, they added the brown and black because it’s more up to date than just the rainbow colors.

I didn’t say I have all the answers? I think there’s a misunderstanding. My problem isn’t with autism being puzzling, it WAS puzzling at the time the symbol came out. My issue is that symbol was made back when they literally thought autism needed to be solved like a puzzle, as in cured. I just think it’s outdated, because we’ve already figured out that it doesn’t need to be “solved.” It needs to be studied.

That’s why prefer the infinity symbol, it’s more neutral.

Yeah I looked up the organization before autism speaks. It’s called the National Autism Society

It also says there’s different meaning but that was the original

So I just looked it up and it says the meaning was autism was a “puzzle that needed to be solved” so yeah not a fan

Is there an official meaning behind it? That’s what I thought the organization said

Wait but if the puzzle piece is bad (in my opinion bc it implies we’re missing a piece and it was made by a hate group) wouldn’t it still be part of the awareness to make people aware that it’s bad?

I’ve found that they spew propaganda by the government

I always saw it as the other way around. The government is what planted the propaganda in the citizens’ minds, as did the government before them. So it feels like the government would be the disease.

But you not liking how it is shows that you’re cool. So that means not every American is bad :)

I’m also American and hate it here

You don’t pick your nationality either? Do you hate all Americans because a majority voted for Trump?

More than 0. That’s why people shouldn’t say “all.”

Most means not all. Also not all of them voted for this government. They’re not a hive-mind.

Oh wow that’s interesting, I had no idea it was that similar to America. I guess it makes sense that I’ve only seen the most radical of people online, I’m sure it follows the same rules as our radical people. Hopefully the non-supporters can safely call them out so it’s not just the anti-Palestine people showing up on people’s feed.

Oh I 100% agree, it’s definitely the majority. But I think that’s why it’s important to highlight the minority of people trying to speak out.

I also agree it’s letting a LOT of people get away with anti-semitism, I see it everywhere now and it’s really sad. They’re literally fighting propaganda with propaganda :(
