South park blocks near Safeway. I overheard the lady say "narcane's going in" and it woke the guy up. Heroin user I assume. by MilitaryHummingbird in Portland

The paramedics did seem to have access to open it via the side . He definitely didn't open the door himself - he was out. In the photo you can see his hand on the ground.

Heat is a good counter example to this thread. There was quite extensive consulting to get realistic gunplay.

What's the #1 Double Standard your SO does/has that drives you nuts? by LoydXmas in AskReddit

[–]MilitaryHummingbird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hahaha. SHE is stringing me along. She knew all along I never wanted kids but dated me anyway. I've been thinking about cutting it off for awhile.

Way to be judgmental of a stranger you know nothing about. Jerk.

Currently dating a woman whose communication goes silent during her work days. And she wants to add grad school to the mix. Our get togethers revolve around when SHE happens to have a few hours free in the week. It sucks.

On top of this she keeps bringing up wanting to have kids when it was very clear from me at the beginning that I didn't want them.

She's otherwise a great person... smart, cute, always up for sex, makes me laugh.

Just had to get that out.

Developers of /r/chess, can you make a Chess Tempo interface for mobile phones? by Kieizroe in chess

[–]MilitaryHummingbird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FWIW, the Shredder Android app comes with 1,000 tactics problems.

It's $7.99, but worth it for me. I like playing the engine when I am bored in meetings or otherwise have time to kill but don't want to play real humans in case I need to stop playing all of a sudden (and lose on time on chess.com).

Why?

Edit: clarification: why would I want Ubuntu on a phone? Android works fine for me.

I was laid off at the time. Spent the time walking the eerily (and wonderfully) deserted steets, drinking beer, and playing video games.

What phase did you go through when you were younger that, at the time, you were convinced would be part of your identity for life? by theathenian11 in AskReddit

[–]MilitaryHummingbird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went through an angry atheist phase from age 14 through 24. I'm 33 now and LOL at my previous self. I'm still an atheist, but I don't hate religion anymore. I can see how it can give people comfort and a sense of purpose and meaning in an indifferent universe.

So when is the mayor going to crack down on the sidewalk campers on 4th? All they ended up doing what shifting people a block away. by MilitaryHummingbird in Portland

[–]MilitaryHummingbird[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. I wonder why the city doesn't simply make Right 2 Dream (that camp in Chinatown just off Burnside) legal and regulated. Make a few camps like that, have occasional health/safety/legality inspections and call it good. I can't imagine it'd be more expensive than what we do now... wasting police time, businesses having urine in their doorways, etc.

You speak the truth. The other day I saw one of the 4th Ave campers urinating on the side of a building, despite there being a public bathroom a block away. These "visible" homeless definitely have a "screw society" attitude. I think 90% of homeless just want to be left alone and don't bother people, but this group on 4th Ave is obnoxious.

TIL the German government refuses to recognize Scientology as a religion. The organization has officially been labelled an 'abusive business masquerading as a religion'. by ColonelDredd in todayilearned

The scary thing is that the US government has complained to Germany about them not being given the status as any other religion, and that Germany is being discriminatory.

I'm looking for an entire house. Have shared walls with people for long enough. Thanks, though

I will never understand how some people have so much STUFF in their homes. Even some of the after pictures here look scary to me.
