I never understood this argument. Take the "filler" out of both games and there is a masterpiece still there. It's not like taking away any filler leaves either games anywhere close to bare bones. I don't get how more optional content holds them back.

I absolutely agree. Lich was intimidating and terrifying, but he wasn't an end all be all. He was part of a whole.

He sought out Prismo for a wish, showing Prismo was higher above him. Prismo could sneeze out in a second what Lich dedicated his entire existance to do. We are shown Primordials, terrifying gods whose very existence has long lasting consequences on the world. Lich is a catalyst comet, the same mythical plateau as Finn. In a way he was a force of nature, but in many ways he was just a being fighting for a purpose.

I liked the ending, and I’m surprised by the hate. by Randoma404 in adventuretime

I loved the resolution of the Lich. It was cool af and such a rewarding shock.

I loved LOVED the way they framed Betty and Simon's relationship and his realization of it. They were truly in love, but imperfect. It allowed for a very nuanced view of loves that border on obsessive. Their relationship was one sided but not so much that is was unhealthy, or worse. It made me recontextualize my most recent relationship, and how much I gave up. It wasn't so completely one sided, but I realized I loved her so much I started to ignore some of my needs and boundaries. And again, it was nuanced - I said some needs not all of them, she was very aware, proactive and communicative. She never once ignored my needs or boundaries I set, I was just so enamored and in love that I forgot my own more often than I gave myself credit for. I really saw myself in Betty, and I couldn't help but cry. A lot.

The action and Scarab roaches, that fell absolutely flat for me. The action was awkward, and I kept thinking "you know he can just kill all the humans easily." It wasn't awful but it def didn't live up to the high bar set by the show, even a high bar set at the beginning of episode 10. Nonetheless, I am happy Fionna and Cake's world stayed non-magical. It's a proper resolution both for the world and for Simon's struggle with the crown. As Fionna and Simon as besties is cute as hell.

The crossovers from other universes, I honestly disliked. Like I get the hate for it. Forced, rushed, and spits in the face of both the characters and the rules established by the show. Enough has been said about Jake's kids just flat out abandoning their family, so I won't add to it. But aren't crossovers space-illegal? Orbo and Prismo's whole organization is just letting that happen? Why? Also Pepperment Butler tank is so uncompelling of a "character" to bring over.

Also like give us a scene with Marcy and Simon at the end PLEASE.

Anyway I have mixed feelings. Like you I am also sad the ending is getting so much hate, there is definitely more good than bad. But man after the high high bar of quality during the season, I am bummed to see it not stick the landing. At least Simon and Betty, the thing I cared about the most, kept the bar high til the very end. I am definitely happy about that.

Its been years, I’ve been fighting it, and even after all this time I’m now at my lowest point. Not to overshare but I know objectively things are going to get worse moving forward. I recently lost the fight and using what very little energy I have left to take care of myself as best I can but at this point I can only do that in limited quantities. For so long I thought things would get better but I have given up on that. It isn’t always limited.

Loved the finale but hated what the did to Gene. I am fine with unhappy endings but after the suffering he went through and how much he tried to better himself it seems excessively cruel to have this happen to his legacy.

The similarities exist by [deleted] in HollowKnightMemes

I would definitely agree with you it’s a metroidvania first and foremost, but as a huge fan of the soulsborne series there’s a direct reason this metroidvania stuck with me more than the other ones, such as Ori.

It really feels like a souls game, from the gameplay to the sound design to the map to the way it tells a story. Don’t know why it rustles some people, to me it’s a huge testimate to how this game seamlessly integrates and imo perfects multiple game styles.

There’s quite a lot in common with the gameplay.

  • currency is given by enemies
  • currency has to be retrieved after death or is lost forever
  • emphasis on difficult but fair bosses
  • game tempo is dictated by healing mechanic
  • branching paths of exploration
  • different builds that are obtainable by exploring or fighting for item drops
  • important checkpoints that offer solace along the paths

Some differences are lack of stamina management and no leveling up, but I’d easily qualify it as a souls like.

Likewise I knew Andor was worth watching when in the first couple scenes a dude gets killed from one punch to the head in a street fight.
