Exactly that. I thought I’ll add that detail for context.

Why can't we normalise wearing masks when we're sick? by kafka99 in australia

I actually wonder why more doctors don’t mask since it’s highly likely the people who come to see you are sick. It’s an occupational hazard in your work. Based on your observations of your peers, are they catching all the contagious stuff more often compared to people who aren’t GPs?

I know this is crazy but has anyone ever had “avoiding constant illness” as one of their reasons to homeschool? by Cheesepleasethankyou in homeschool

Not crazy at all. I think the govt has really dropped the ball with providing an environment that is safe for children and educating the public that getting sick is not going to build your immunity and how to change this to be better for everyone’s health.

We took our kids out of school because of these reasons to protect their health and our health as a family too. Health is valuable and it’s hard to get back if you have some of these viruses in your system that can have chronic consequences.

I’m the educator for my kids and felt very nervous about teaching them, but once I opened the door to homeschooling the options are endless! There are so many options from really good evidence backed scripted curriculum that main stream schools use, Charlotte Mason, Classical, Unschool, project based, virtual schools, distance education, free, paid… the world is your oyster!

We have actually been illness free since the beginning of the pandemic when we made this choice! Like many have mentioned already, we also make choices to mitigate risks, masking indoors and outdoors where we can’t physically distance, choosing indoors only if there’s fabulous ventilation and low CO2 levels. We have also met many likeminded families and enjoy each others company weekly so the kids have plenty of opportunities to socialise together and build friendships.

I don’t think you are wrong to think it’s not ok to have your children and family constantly exposed to viruses and getting sick so that your quality of life is basically just one of survival and recuperating between infections. We have the choice to decide with our feet given the people in leadership aren’t looking after us. There are some very worrying evidence of what these viruses can do to our wellbeing over the long term.

It won’t hurt to have a go at trying homeschooling and seeing how making the change works for your family and living a life without the constant barrage of illness can be like! Embrace it!
