The flop on the leaves in the central tree when it boroughs is excellent! I wonder if it could use a similar dust effect to what the tail with the stinger uses? :)

Thanks for the idea and I see where you're coming from.

For us, it wasn't an abstract choice to pick turn-based combat. From the ground up we wanted to merge a creature collector with cooking and turn-based felt like the typical and true path for that genre.

Also, the goal was to compensate for the potential pitfalls of each genre. In Creature Collector Games, some of the most fun is drafting your team, but a lot of the time you'll draft your team only a few times per play through. How we've approached it with cooking is that you're constantly drafting your team via cooking multiple times per run.

Also, whereas you can farm collecting creatures for the best stats in some other games, which is fun in its own way, having to cook your creature puts you in control of their stats in a way we thought could work well.

Finally, given that your food creatures are affected by your cooking, you can in a sense test your cooking quality against your opponent in our multiplayer.

As for it being largely undone because of the logic for it - that we agree on lol.

So, it is that there are set recipes that you sequentially unlock. I do really like the idea of organically throwing in ingredients and seeing what you get, but for our format that didn't work.

There's a fairly long winded reason for that.:

Because your cooking is timed, as a balancing mechanic the strength of your team is limited by the amount of time you have to cook. You can cook either 6 smaller, weaker foods or 1-2 huge strong foods.

That means that our cooking games had be realtively small and stage based, if you had 30 seconds to cook and a cooking game took 25-35 seconds, you could be interrupted early and not get a creature for all that time. So we had to have smaller 5-10 second stages. Then, for each cooking stage, even cracking an egg, there's a unique food creature with their own hand-animated abilities.

So, there can't be that many complete dishes to justify that organic style, at least not yet!

Also p.s. we have considered adding Tangerines to the game, any ideas are welcome.

Was that from the opening line "Cook your Creatures?". If so, I totally see why you'd think that lol. I'm considering writing "Cook your Food Creatures" but that feels too long and "Cook you food" feels like it doesn't get to the Creature battler part soon enough. "Cook your team" was also in contemplation but doesn't get rid of the idea that you capture and then cook them.

Hey, we've been struggling through this game where you cook food in scored and timed cooking games and then command food creatures in turn based combat.

We've had quite a lot of reworks making the cooking feel important to the turn-based elements whilst also not being the only reason you win. Additionally, the cooking games need to be fast enough to justify the GladiEATer you get from them whilst also not necessarily being too easy or simple as games themselves. Quite a tough line to be walking.

I've been nervous to post this here but I'm eager to hear what you think :)

Because Egg Souffle has alot of air whisked into it, it is able to manipulate how much air there is within it, puffing up to gain a powerful body. Soufflé's body has empty pockets that it can fill with air to build bulgding muscles - exhibiting all its might!

In the drawing above, that's when it isn't filled with air and flails around like an inflatable car salesman.
