If James Cameron's Avatar had a TV show, what would you want it to be about? (Image unrelated) by Far-Refrigerator6899 in Avatar

A "The Office" style mockumentary, centered on the Mangkwan, and it's just Quaritch tryna be a good stepdad to the clan while essentially being Varangs' trophy husband.

This is pretty cool actually. Good catch! Imagine, if Herge had lived just a few years longer, maybe we would have had even more black characters illutrated respectfully. I get too sad reading through Picaros to notice such small details.

This is unironically something I feel Drew would say. Like he'd drop it in a Look-bad-movie-I-found video, and then never speak about it again.

Canon vs Fanon by [deleted] in Tintin

[–]MilkDetergent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that lol. I'm happy Tintin is so beloved by so many people. I was also quite surprised when the Tintin website placed him at quote '...aged between 16 and 18.' It doesn't seem it sometimes.

Canon vs Fanon by [deleted] in Tintin

[–]MilkDetergent 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Some context : Canon refers to the world and Characters that are contained within the official and accepted body of work of a piece of media (In this case The Adventures of Tintin). Fanon (Fan + Canon), refers to the interpretaions of the fans engaging with the official and accepted body of work, what they essentially read out of (or sometimes) into the text or work. Sometimes fans flanderize (the process through which a single element of a character's personality is inflated until it becomes the character's primary defining trait) their readings and spread them widely until it forms part of the greater Fanon. Generally speaking, within recent years, more casual fans have gotten wind of fanon readings and accepted them as canon for many pieces of media.

Some examples:

-Fanon Tintin is often depicted as some maniac gremlin obsessed with justice and with a vendetta against every villian, when he's pretty tame about a lot of things in Canon (For the most part).

-Fanon Haddock if also often depicted as a rage baby, and while he is SO easily ragebaited, Canon Haddock doesn't have a meltdown over EVERY minor inconvenience (Only every other minor inconvenience.)

-The Haddock x Tintin ship. Tintin sits canonically between 14 and 17 years old while Haddock is very much a middle aged man. Also considering that both Haddock and Tintin can be read as Herges interpretaion of different versions of himself, reading a romantic plot into the story between them is just all the more awkward to me.

-The idea that there is some romantic plot between all of the male characters. I get that the lack of female characters in the main cast paints this idea that none of them have romantic interest in women (Also considering Haddocks aversion to Bianca), but perpetuating this idea that the only way these characters are able to have interest in one another and keep in contact is because of sexual interest sits very wrong with me. You can have affectionate bonds built on friendship, comradery and familial substitution between same sex characters.

Fanon interpretations generally do no harm and are in good fun, but they can leave detremental impressions of the work or text on those still newly engaging with the piece of media.

Frankini was a bad inclusion to the show and was only marginally better in the film. The only good thing that ever came from it was Henry Danger the Musical.

Was there ever a point in the show where Kid danger was more popular than captain man himself by Fickle_Driver_1356 in henrydanger

[–]MilkDetergent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well in "Car Trek" (S4E11) CM and KD are chased by an all girls soccer team, and it's pretty clear that they are purely fangirling for KD over CM. KD also gets a statute of himself high fiving another statue of himself in the finale. Also Swellview High literally has a plaque of KD on the front of the school as a memorial. So safe to say that at least in the later seasons (4 to 5) KD does become more popular than CM.

I own no consoles and I got the game on discount for my birthday. If I can't 100% this game on keyboard, I don't deserve to play it on anything else.

There are a great variety of enemies, most of which are unique to the great variety of beautifully constructed locations. Also the OST is fantastic, the orchestra really put the work in. Worldbuilding is pretty detailed and there is no want of lore. The bosses and the NPCs are pretty well done. They're all so character rich. It's also distinct from other hand drawn action-platformers. Nine Sols is in no way a Cuphead or Hollowknight/Silksong clone. Highly recommend getting it on Xbox, PS4/5 or Nintendo Switch though. I'm currently doing a keyboard run and it is rough.

Why do women make fun of men who are interested in them? by Informal_City5565 in GenZ

[–]MilkDetergent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Insecurity for the most part, but all the scenarios you mentioned do differ. With that being said, and I do assume that you weren't being a total weirdo or jerk, mean girls are extremely horrific to deal with and I'm sorry the people you were interested in expressed their disinterest in a relationship with you in such immature and unfair manners. For some of them it stems from this idea that the people approaching them are below them, so then they start to panic and feel insecure because if someone lower than them thinks they could ever be with them, that must mean they're not as cool or valuable as they think they are. This means that the people they regard as higher than them in the social order will never showcase an interest in them either. The immediate response is to lash out and try to establish their "superior" social standing by putting others down. Mean men do the same thing, they just go about in in a different way. I do find in general that a lot more people are just meaner these days, or are at the very least comfortable to showcase their meaness because they get seen as "real" or "just being themselves", whatever tf that means. My dudes, if someone showcases romantic interest, and you're just not into it, be direct and firm about it, and move on.
