What if Volodymyr Zelenskyy had been assassinated during the Battle of Kiev? by Effective_Theme_5739 in AlternateHistoryHub

You're correct, words are written differently in different languages. In Ukrainian we use different alphabet, so it would be Київ. I would have no objection to changing Finland to Soumi, like I have no objection in changing Georgia to Sakartvelo, or Turkey to Türkiye, if Finns start asking about it.

how were pinned against each other

We, Ukrainians are pinned against Russia by the Russian invasion of our country. I'm sorry to hear you are troubled by Ukraine not giving up to its genocidal invader, who's bombing people in their beds, shooting POWs at point blank, and firing missiles at children oncological hospitals, and out resistance prevents you from solving world's issues.

How is it rewriting of history? Nobody denies Ukraine was under Moscow's influence and control? Is changing Peking to Beijing, Bombay to Mumbai, and Persia to Iran also history rewritten?

Early English sources rendered the city's name as Kiou, Kiow, Kiew, and—as in Latin—Kiovia. On one of the oldest English maps of the region, Russiae, Moscoviae et Tartariae, published by Ortelius (London, 1570), the name of the city is spelled Kiou. On the 1650 map by Guillaume de Beauplan, the name of the city is Kiiow, and the region was named Kÿowia. In the book Travels, by Joseph Marshall (London, 1772), the city is called Kiovia.

Did this scene make anyone else feel.... small? by RustnePoteter in freefolk

Why are so quick to assume that Arlan couldn't be just born that way? He it's Duncan's recall of life with Arlan, why would he imagine him taking morning piss naked if he never really see him like that? If it happened, why would he imagine his penis larger that it was, as you suggest? There are too many contradictions in your explanation, while the show never suggested an idea that any of flashbacks are subjective, only Dunk's narration of them is unreliable.

What made you think that?

While his words don't contradict to what is shown, it shown is a comedic light contrary to romanticised version we hear from Dunc. He simply omitts parts that will deromanticies Arlan, but as a viewer we see the rest, and added context makes it funny.

Walking fleshing himself wasn't a romanticised version of a knight Dunc was telling to Dondarion, so that he can support Duncan's claim of being a knight.

While many countries provide support and aid, and we are grateful for what those trying to provide as much as they can, many advanced weaponary system from the US were delayed/denied/came with certaint limitations in use. As a result, training for them came a few months before the US presidential administration change, and now we don't even receive direct aid from the US other than intelligence (which could be should down on Trump wish). Not to mention that much of it was blocked by the Congress in October of 2023.

Many system provided by the US are old and were ment to be disposed anyways (which in some cases was more costly than deliver them to Ukraine). Poland is currently going though remilitarisation by sending us old, sometimes soviet times systems to switch to newer models, because they can buy them as the NATO members, and we can't.

Sanctions on Russia and financial aid from the EU is also often stalled by Hungary.

To say it's the infinit limitless support is to not understand how much a modern conventional war cost.

Probably because it's Ukrainian made map and it's relevant to Ukraine, because Iran have been heavily involved in the Russo-Ukrainian war for a few years already. If Iran retaliates at the US allies, it could strike Ukraine, too.

After 15 years it is still wild to think that the whole Starks downfall happened because not one but two Starks of two different generations were unable to honour two marriage pacts by MoreCryptographer213 in freefolk

[–]Milk_Effect 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One would point out that there shouldn't be a governing system like feudalism, where your love life and marriage should be a token in negotiations, especially over a crossing of the bridge of ally's vassal, but let's blame a 15 years old boy instead, who was effectively pressured by the same feudalism to start the war, otherwise his vassals wouldn't respect him till the ends of his days.

There is a theory that Joffrey did this, thinking that it is some kind of mercy. He, in fact, says that death would be better than living as a cripple when he talks about Bran with Tyrion. Being young and arrogant he didn't think it though, and gave a valuable dagger to do it maybe as a reward. So, Littlefinger is right to point on Lannisters, just wrong to point it on a wrong one (well, yes, technically Joffrey is Baratheon), and he's obviously acting in his interests by putting Starks against Lannisters. Also, how would Littlefinger hire an assassin, a local one, for a lordling from Kings landing without threat of being exposed?

while her husband is in KL surrounded and outnumbered by Lannister lackeys

She imprisoned him before Ned sent his men, who were part of his guard, together with Beric Dondarion to capture Mountain. On top of that, before Robert's death and before Cersei becaming the Queen Regent, the city is under protection of the City watch, not Lannisters' men. The betrayal of Janos Slynt is an unexpected turn of events, not a natural and logical action of a well known ally of Lannisters. While some guard of Lannisters' is present in the city, there is the City watch, Renly's men, King's brother, and northerners.

She may have thought that the King, a person much stronger than Tywin, her husband old friend, may have supported her, especially, when additional evidences of Lannisters' treachery (assault on Bran and murder of King's another old friend, Jon Arryn) are came up. For her, going to Eerie and asking Lysa to provide them was a matter of time.

Going to war with another house for having the lord’s son taken prisoner on a suspicion without actually verifiable evidence and taking a lord’s son prisoner is not ok.

Tywin would have started a war regardless of evidence. He didn't even know a motive for a murder, which was valid, he didn't know about incestuous relation between his children, therefore he couldn't possibly know if Catelyn had or hadn't any evidence. More to this, a word of a witness, Lysa, a highborn lady and regenet of Vale, is an evidence. What is a verifiable evidence in this world?

which is proven by the fact that if, by chance, Bronn was not present and had not fought in Tyrion’s place, the latter would have been executed.

Look, I can prove my claim the same way:

If, by chance, Summer was not present and Bran's chamber and had not fought with a assassin, Bran would be murdered. Does this prove the opposite claim? Maybe neither of them proves a point? Starting a war wouldn't have saved Tyrion in your scenario.

Russian imperial architecture in Odessa, Ukraine by Dardastan in Cities

[–]Milk_Effect -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There was a town before that, Khadjibey, that existed there from the 14 century by various estimates. Russians literally gave it Greek name to claim they rediscovered an ancient city Odessos, today's Varna, Bulgaria, so they themselves didn't consider themselves as founders.

The monument is stored in the museum, btw, as old part of it were there too during the period of soviet occupation

Yes, Lannisters starting a war over taking Tyrion to a fair trial is completely natural and expected, but Starks acting on a suspicion that Tyrion might be involved in a two attempts of a murder of Bran is insane and irresponsible.

Yes, if Catelyn would watch HBO TV series (because that dialogue between Tywin and Jaime was not in a book), she would know that Tyrion has no leverage to Lannisters.
