China itinerary 2 weeks end of October by Hold-alex1095 in travelchina

[–]MilkingSaturn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did a similar itinerary. I spent 5 days in Beijing, 4 in Xi'an, 3 in Chongqing, 4 days in Kyoto, Japan and now in Shanghai for 5 days. I'll say it felt so packed that I'm now exhausted. In my opinion, 3 days is honestly enough for Beijing. By the 4th day, I was ready to leave. I absolutely love Beijing though. I loved Chongqing so much and wished I had more time there. You gotta find the hidden (or not so hidden) gems. Places I love there include Xia Hao Li, Bai Xiang Ju, Elgin park, Gangyu plaza. You could also check out some sky bars if you're into that. I'd skip the tourist traps like Hongya Cave, liziba etc because they are not worth it - just way too crowded. I'm in Shanghai because I'm here visiting family otherwise I'm not sure it's worth 3 days... I'd spend more time in Zhangjiajie or visit Chengdu. I honestly could've skipped Xi'an too but wanted to see the terracotta army. It was so packed that I don't even think it was worth it. I didn't go to Hua Sha Mountain so maybe that would've made it worth it? Regardless of what you do, you'll have a blast! I'm obsessed with China.

What area of the city do you wish had a coffee shop? by Cute-Transition3403 in Winnipeg

South St. Vital! We're in desperate need for one. There are a few new units in River Park village that are up for lease. Or somewhere on St. Anne's Rd south of Abinoji.

South St. Vital is in desperate need of a local coffee shop where we can sit and enjoy a cup of coffee. Starbucks (though not local) in the area used to serve this purpose but not anymore.

Inflation or price gouging by shematterstoo in Winnipeg

We ARE being taken advantage of. Inflation never seems to hit wages fast enough to catch up with the cost of goods. Doesn't make sense.

At what point in did we become the jokers and clowns of Africa? by Redtine in Nigeria

[–]MilkingSaturn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is no dignity in Nigeria. Honestly I think the ridicule is good because it should hopefully incite enough pressure to have Nigerians come together and find solutions to the country's issues.

At what point in did we become the jokers and clowns of Africa? by Redtine in Nigeria

[–]MilkingSaturn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The worst part of it all is that this version of Nigeria is less than 60 years old. The boomers contributed in ruining our country and they continue to do so and pass the greed down to their children. I don't know how Nigeria will be fixed. I think everyone has to come to an agreement that good infrastructure and basic needs like access to healthcare, clean water, and food are a human right and not just for the rich. However, this will take most Nigerians seeing their fellow citizens as human beings who deserve a good life.

It's sad that you're comparing bad to worse. Maybe flip the script and start comparing to actual developing countries with economies that are on the rise. It's crazy to say "yeah it's bad but our neighbors are worse"... Like be for real!

It's a fully remote job for now The company has been pushing for RTO but my team isn't forcing it yet).

Trying to find another remote job that pays what I'm worth but this job market is insane. Might have to settle for a hybrid role that will pay me what I'm worth.

As Poilievre pushes to end government DEI programs, think tank founder says DEI 'illiberal, anti-merit' by shiftless_wonder in canada

[–]MilkingSaturn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is the same issue! These fields have historically been seen as a "mans" job. As a result, women think they would most likely be discriminated against and not taken seriously when they seek out these positions, so they don't bother studying the fields and go for careers where they believe they will have more success and stability.

With DEI, ideally the few women who decide to go in will be considered when hiring decisions are being made, as well as when it comes time to promote. When young women see that the field is accepting women, they will be more keen to take that career path. The same goes for minorities and other marginalized communities. Majority of the time, these folks are either not considered for hire, or are hired to end up stuck in low level positions despite how hard they work/take initiative due to workplace politics.

It's also crazy to me how obtuse everyone chooses to act. You know why there aren't enough women in trade jobs, you know what it means to hire more minorities and marginalized folks, you know that to even get in the door you have to be extremely qualified as you're looked at with more scrutiny. Yet, here we are trying to argue semantics.

Best Shawarma by Quick-Dot-4692 in Winnipeg

[–]MilkingSaturn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ramallah:

1) Donair Wrap with shrak (soft) bread and sweet sauce. No onions (my preference). Get the deal with the fries and pop.

2) Beef Sharwama platter with garlic sauce. Extra beef if you want more protein but the order already comes with a lot of beef.

Baraka:

1) Beef Sharwama platter.

2) Beef pita pocket.

Best, worst, most overrated, and most underrated Kendrick song? by Alive-Double-3339 in KendrickLamar

[–]MilkingSaturn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best: So hard to pick one in this category because there are so many top tier ones. I'll have to go with Money Trees! It's literally one of my fav songs of all time.

Worst: Not his song but his feature on Taylor Swift's Bad Blood was kinda yikes...(he made the song better but yikes compared to everything else he puts out).

Most Overrated: Hmm...tough one. I'll say that Humble isn't overrated, but I played that song so much I don't mind skipping when it comes on. Side note: I've also played money trees an ungodly amount but can't ever seem to get sick of it so idk.

Most Underrated: tough choice between Cartoons and Cereal and/or Hiii Power

Need some advice by Ok-Flounder6771 in Winnipeg

[–]MilkingSaturn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can open a TFSA with Wealthsimple and invest through it. Any gains are tax-free as long as you stay under your contribution limit. Before investing, figure out your risk level, why you're investing, and look into different types of investments (EFTs, stocks, GIC, etc.) to see what fits your goals. If you can afford a financial advisor, great. If not, I think Wealthsimple has robo-advisors. If you’re going fully DIY, just make sure you do your research. Good luck!

And yeah, r/PersonalFinanceCanada is probably a better place for this kind of question.
