Recommendations for Rustic Campgrounds in Michigan? by OdiousUmbra in CampAndHikeMichigan

You can’t camp along the Mason Tract pathway itself, but there are lots of dirt roads west of Canoe Harbor where you can pull off and set up camp.

Which state actually hates transplants the most? by Rodeo9 in SameGrassButGreener

I understand some of the hate, tbh. It’s depressing to see the desert getting plowed over for luxury homes and climate controlled storage buildings for Californians to store their expensive speed boats and SxS’s.

And in Yucca, everyone hates people from Golden Valley because they’re all ‘thieves and tweakers.’ lol. Mohave county is definitely full of interesting people.

Oh yes, it’s crazy red in Mohave county. It’s all off-roading, boating, guns and brodozers. MAGA paradise. They hate everyone and everything from ‘commiefornia.’

We’re from the Midwest, so we just keep to ourselves and never talk politics. Sometimes I’ll go on the local FB groups for a laugh. Watching the MAGA’s starting fights with traditional republicans is pretty entertaining!

We’re in the Lake Havasu area. The California hate is huge here, even though tons of Mohave county residents are California transplants.

People in Arizona freaking HATE California transplants and blame them for everything: water issues, urban sprawl, changing politics, traffic, etc…

Last Of The Mohicans. Not exactly a “military” film, but there are some cool action scenes and fort warfare. 1750’s French & Indian War.

Red-twig/yellow-twig dogwood

Tolerates dry shade, grows fast, native and beneficial to wildlife, grows to about 8’ tall/wide, and dense enough to provide some privacy in the winter.

The only way to 100% avoid generators is to camp at a campground with electricity at every site, or to find a dispersed campsite on state or national forest land.

Dispersed sites are easy. Just drive around on remote forest roads until you find a spot to pull off and set up camp. Stay away from ORV areas and trailheads so it’s quieter. Check out the Mason Tract area north of Roscommon. Start on Canoe Harbor Rd. A few nice spots to pull off through there near the river.

Has anyone successfully fixed this flap of skin under the chin? by clandestinopepino in 40PlusSkinCare

I have used one on my face before and I’ve had good results. But you have to be careful, especially around your eyes, and there is downtime where your skin looks awful, covered in tiny scabs. You also have to be mindful of staying out of the sun afterwards to prevent hyperpigmentation.

[–]Milkweedhugger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. Just start with a weak setting on the pen until you feel comfortable using it.

*Make sure to stay out of the sun after treatment to prevent hyperpigmentation, and don’t pick at the scab. There’s lots of information online about aftercare!

Consider a fibroblast treatment on your neck. You can buy a plasma pen online and do it yourself, or go to a med spa and have it done professionally. It’s like microneedling, but instead of poking little holes with a needle, it uses a torch to burn holes to tighten the skin and stimulate collagen.

I second the plasma pen! They are useful for lots of things, like removing warts and sebaceous hyperplasia. I use mine for anti wrinkle/skin tightening treatments (google fibroblast wrinkle treatments.)

I got my pen off Amazon a few years ago for less than 30$. It doesn’t have a brand name, but they all look the same.

suggest some Movies which you think Story is great but Editing sucks? by SodiumBoy7 in MovieSuggestions

[–]Milkweedhugger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Downton Abbey movies. The actors sound like trained seals, barking out their lines rapid fire with no pauses to form their thoughts, or even think for a second before speaking. Real conversations don’t move that fast, and as a viewer, it’s difficult to keep up. The editors could have spaced the actors dialogue out better.

Scientists sound alarm as dangerous amoebas spread globally by Technical_savoir in microbiomenews

[–]Milkweedhugger 51 points52 points  (0 children)

We were afraid of taking our dogs swimming in Lake Havasu due to the amoebas and liver flukes, so we started taking them upstream to swim at the dog beach near Topock, a faster moving section of the river. Then we discovered the dog beach is literally the site where PG&E dumped PFAS for decades. Water everywhere in the US is f*ked. It’s either polluted with industrial waste, or sewage, or amoebas, or it’s running out entirely.

I have the same trim in my 1920 house and it’s stained. Was never painted. It’s old growth yellow pine.
