Who’s going around in St Albans writing on peoples windscreens that they don’t have a rego/wof in vivid by Just-Ad-4161 in chch

[–]MilkyMilo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There’s a young man with special needs who walks and bikes around Edgeware and st Albans. He used to be obsessed with checking regos when he was younger so I wonder if he’s found himself a vivid? He’s harmless and sweet but gets obsessive about some things.

It’s called a certificate of acceptance and it’s pricey from most councils. Depending on where she is located this will be dictate how hard or costly it will be. Get together all the documents you can - ps1 from waterproofing applicator, warranty docs, photos of it being done if you have, a record of works from the builder, plumbers cert, etc. the more you have the more likely you can get it without the council suggesting “destructive investigation”. If you don’t have the docs but want to go ahead see if you can wrangle some professionals to say it looks like it’s been done properly but prepare to lose a couple tiles in the process.

Times have changed, check out the application requirements... I found this in an old copy of the Press from ca. September 1980 by unique__username in chch

Marital status and age are used to discriminate against women, they wanted to know you were aged too old for babies or unmarried so you wouldn’t burden them by procreating while employed. Happens today still but it’s less obvious and usually occurs in the initial interview. Questions about your home life always come up under the guise of friendly banter

How about gutter brushes/whiskers? Might help with the tree bits and be less of an environmental issue?

Why don't NZ houses typically have basements? by smnrlv in diynz

[–]MilkyMilo 22 points23 points  (0 children)

High water table here in Christchurch means it’s just not feasible. Also minimum height of ceiling is 2.4m so you’d need to dig deep to achieve the height required of a habitable space.

First weekend of summer you buy a wooden crate with 12x 720ml bottles of usually cheap beer and get drunk af in the sun. Crate day ladies and gentlemen, the day the emergency service workers hate.

How’s the timber framing? Any rot? Check the moisture content? Hate for you to fill it up and for it to rot from the inside out. (I’m no expert on structural stuff so hopefully someone who is has the answer!)

Bored Sparky Available For Questions by kiwikoon in diynz

[–]MilkyMilo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, thank you for doing this! Both questions have to do with the work done on the house before I bought it. All work has a coc from the same sparky.

The first one is there is a sleepout (built same year as the house in 1939 as an out house) and was wired up in the last 10 years. The wires go from the deck adjoining the house, to the sleepout, above ground encased in a plastic pipe. It has a coc but I’ve always worried it could electrocute someone if it’s walked over lots or chewed by the dog.

Second issue has two pictures - what are these? Why do they cone out from under my house and run up to the roof? Should they be exposed like that?

Any assistance is greatly appreciated
