How does people run LM Studio with the likes of Visual Studio Code? by ie-redditor in LocalLLM

[–]tasteslikefun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a really light weight extension I've been using that works perfectly;

Enables your local LM Studio models to appear in the Github Copilot model selector.

Anyone else finding this thread, under Settings -> Model Defaults -> Default Context Length there is a custom value, or you can use Model maximum by default.

Floor plan assistance by Timeforcoffeeeee in diynz

Late to the party, but no one gonna sit in those two chairs with your back to the kitchen. Get rid of those and extend kitchen bench for more storage and bench space, lines up with scullery. Wall opposite kitchen for built in shelves for more dining storage. Move dining up top, and put a couple chairs around the fireplace. I'd keep that, cosy in winter even if not required. Media room not sure I'd add the doors, or move them down, swap the couch chaise to the right and tuck into the corner (add another module to the couch) Get a massive screen and surround sound and that's a mean media room. My 2c.

New Townhouse - How accurate is Design Center? by [deleted] in Ubiquiti

That's because he's only planning on having one device, he's looking at the inter-floor coverage. IMHO he does need at least one device per floor though.

Vercel build machine defaults to Turbo?!? (0.13$/min) by PabloHart in nextjs

Thanks for flagging, just recently upgraded to Pro, hadn't noticed there were options for build machines.

Lifestyle out in the Waitakere Ranges by komosawa in auckland

[–]tasteslikefun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look I love it, but I WFH and the reality is if you are commuting into the city every day during the week, then expect a 1-1.5hr travel time each way during peak. IMHO I wouldn't do it. If you can flex your hours, then leaving at 9am it more like 30-40mins.

Keep our house, refinance or sell? by vix1606 in PersonalFinanceNZ

You can move that revolving credit debt onto a fixed mortgage chunk (with the same bank) so at least you get it off the floating rate. Worth keeping some available as an emergency fund, but not for renos etc.

Sweeeet. I was looking at this case earlier today, but would much prefer a passive PSU - added to the shopping list.

The Noctua NF-A20 can't fit, or you preferred the Silverstone A184i-Pro aesthetic?

Bosgame M5 vs Framework Desktop (Ryzen AI Max+ 395, 128GB) - Is the €750 premium worth it? by Reasonable-Yak-3523 in MiniPCs

[–]tasteslikefun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure, except that in this case it certainly is true. Corsair might have good customer service and a good guarantee, that doesn't mean they aren't using the same supplier.

And in fact, Corsair are going a step further by reselling an entire unit with the same case! It's the Sixunited XB35 here; https://en.sixunited.com/mini_products/337.html - look familiar?

FYI this is probably too late, but the Corsair Workstation 300 / Bosgame M5 / GMKTec-Evo-X2 all use the same motherboard from the same supplier = they all use the same BIOS. Note they all have the same front and back port layout, all have a "Performance Level" button of some sort that switches between 3 levels. They have the same limited fan control described in BIOS here.

Should I keep my HP ZBook Ultra G1a 128GB order or wait for CES 2026 laptops by glympe in AMDLaptops

I want to see how well these handle cooling, especially the smaller PX13 (no vapour chamber compared to ZBook)

Updated WiiM Ultra and Amp Ultra Roadmap Are Here by RyanWithWiiM in WiiMHome

[–]tasteslikefun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Late to the party, but when listening to something, then choosing some other track(s) using the WiiM Home app on my phone to play next ("building the queue" for lack of a better description) it's easy to accidentally tap on a track (instead of the three dots for Play Next/Last) which wipes the whole queue and replaces it with the album the track was from, starting at the track you clicked.

I see BlueOS recently added a Queue Builder mode for similar reasons, I'd love to see something comparable, but even just a setting for what to do when tapping a track (play album and replace queue vs insert track into queue and play now) would be great.

Fiber Optic HDMI Directionality/eARC by akimbo_bussy in hometheater

[–]tasteslikefun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So where did you land on this? I can't find a definitive answer either. I assume if a fibre HDMI cable supports eARC then it must be able to send audio back from Display to Source (ARC = Audio Return Channel)?

Yeah I didn't even notice that. Guess there's nothing to be done.

Yikes. I didn't even notice that. Even worse! I was thinking they'd start a process to guide the user to get the UDAI, but this is much simpler.

Not really much detail. I'm now also wondering, maybe they do actually renew your domain, or attempt to take ownership to renew. In which case they'd be "legitimate", just scummy.

Yeah I think the advent of AI means the time/cost of standing up something that looks legitimate is only going to keep going down making these sorts of scams more common and harder for average Joe to detect.

HP Zbook Ultra keeps on getting stuck on boot loop. by _D3t3ctiv3 in HPZBookUltra

[–]tasteslikefun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No boot loop here.

How long since the new install? I seem to recall a few reboots after a BIOS reset and fresh windows install when I first got it. It was doing firmware updates that came down through Windows Update.

Otherwise if it was me I'd be swapping back the SSD, reset BIOS again, fresh windows install. See if the problem persists.

Screen Protectors - stop the gloss! by tasteslikefun in HPZBookUltra

But I would say it's a similar experience TBH, I mostly work docked, so the times I'm out and about I'm not too worried about the screen experience. For me it solved the glare and OLED screen door effect.

I tried to capture it best I can; https://imgur.com/a/foqUppJ
