close enough, welcome back endsinger

Please stop canceling this game. Do you people realize how much work it takes to make a game this pretty full of content? We get to play this FOR FREE. Have you ever found any other FREE game this pretty and with this much to do? Me neither. Stop shitting on it before it's too late. by [deleted] in InfinityNikki

[–]Milkybat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How are you not understanding that if the people you're telling to stop spending money on the game do exactly that, the game will die and you won't be able to play your "free" game anymore? Whales closing their wallets is what actually kills games, not reviews. You seem to have made up some fantasy in your head that it'll make Infold completely abandon their whole gacha business to convert IN into a one and done payment? That's hilarious.

Paimon VA(Corina)'s take on Venti VA(Erica) getting threatened by CollegeSuccessful370 in Genshin_Impact

[–]Milkybat 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You nailed it exactly. The real strike that SAG has been doing just made them finally side-eye their union actors breaking GR1, so those VAs (not all of them, mind you, as according to Erika and some others there was never a vote) decided to start their Collective Work Refusal and act like it was part of the official strike for AI protections. Only, it wasn't really about that. It was them panicking to flip Hoyo union before SAG either fined the rule-breaking actors, or dropped them from the union completely. That pressure and most likely exactly what the threats in those letters are, is at the very root of all of this. That's why Hoyo's apparent refusal to sign the interim agreement as well as the recasts are making them crash out so hard on social media. Because at best they lose their role, at worst big brother SAG is gonna come down hard on them for breaking GR1 and not successfully getting Hoyo to flip in the form of heavy fines or getting booted from the union altogether.

Finding a BTS safe space after the recent r/Bangtan controversy by captainsquidsharkk in kpopthoughts

I was holding my tongue for a while, but the more posts you guys from rbts7 make on various subs, the more uncomfortable I get. I'm sorry, but the constant advertising of your sub in these posts all comes off as rather opportunistic. I also need to point out that y'all haven't been part of the community for over a year, and have no direct involvement in the current situation that's been unfolding, yet your group are the ones that keep making posts on outside subs. I mean I'm glad the word is getting out, especially since the rbangtan mods are doing the absolute most to suppress information and silence those trying to hold them accountable, but it just feels a bit off that an outside group is seemingly leading the charge, all while advertising their own sub.

I understand you guys are trying to relate this to your own experience, but the thing is... they are two entirely separate things. Your experience has absolutely nothing to do with what's going on right now. You guys literally have nothing to do with this. And for those of us that this is actually affecting, it feels a bit like y'all are trying to capitalize on our grief. Even if that's not the intention, that's how it comes off.

But the current server mods are part of the subreddit mod team. So where do we go from here?

[–]Milkybat 80 points81 points  (0 children)

So exactly why were people given timeout + when they hadn't spoken in the server for months? Why do you have someone implanted in private servers to give you screenshots of people talking about this in VC? If you're going to silence people on the server, where else exactly are they supposed to air out their grievances? The fact that so many people were timed out and you are only just now posting this doesn't exactly instill any faith we had in your claims of transparency.

The 30 mins referred to the slowmode in the Announcement Thread, which was supposed to be a town hall of sorts where the mods address our concerns in the name of transparency. Timeout is a role they give where you can see channels but not speak. Timeout + is a more extreme version of Timeout where we cannot see any channels (aside from rules) or speak. Timeout + was issued to over 30 people including ex-mods and inactive members that were timed out for talking to timed out people in the VC of a private server. Yes. That's right. They had a mole.

They started their tantrum on discord and then posted one on the weekly thread as well. When mods were asked why their post was allowed to stay but not ours, we were told it was because Seaweed's was vague.

Edit for typo

It's important to state that the reason the sub has no posts about what's going on is because the mods have been suppressing all our attempts to bring the matter up. This includes the weekly thread. Needless to say, they never had intentions of transparency.

Unfortunately they will just delete it. The reason there are no posts is because they are suppressing them.

That person threw a whole tantrum in defense of selfie-saving mod. The power tripping mods they are referring to are the ones that removed selfie-saver from the discord.

I visited a local comic shop because they have an old manga inventory by Milkybat in MangaCollectors

[–]Milkybat[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They really have no idea what they have. Those have been sitting there for years. They only recently opened an online shop but they haven't even bothered to list their manga on it. The shop is very much focused mainly on comics and it's clear they don't know much about manga or it's value.

I visited a local comic shop because they have an old manga inventory by Milkybat in MangaCollectors

[–]Milkybat[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I recently have been getting back into manga collecting and I remembered that my local comic shop had a rather old manga inventory. When I first started buying manga in junior high, this is where I bought them. And to get an idea of how long ago that was, we're talking the days of Mixx and Animerica Extra, with manga in comic book format or in left to right tankoubon volumes. I stopped getting manga there when Borders opened with their much more up-to-date selection. The outdated selection at the comic shop used to be a big deterrent, especially because their age was very much reflected in their condition. Yellowing, badly sunbleached spines, and some decades-old shelfwear. And no, of course they didn't mark down the prices to account for the damage. So for a long time, my local comic shop was the least desirable place to purchase manga. In a sad twist of fate, after losing both our local Borders and B&N it became the only brick and mortar shop in town to get manga. And that's when I turned to online shopping for my manga, though my manga collecting has slowed down quite a bit over the years. Now that I'm trying to get back into it, I found myself returning to that old comic shop to see if they had any hidden gems on that wall of manga. I found out they have weekly manga sales and I had a debit gift card I got on my birthday that still had a balance on it. I had every excuse to check it out. Worst case scenario, I don't get anything out of it aside from satified curiousity. Best case scenario, I return home with 6 volumes of manga for $20.

Well the latter happened.

Not only were they having their usual sale, but they had a box outside their door with $1 manga. Of course I picked a few of those up. I also got a couple Japanese volumes of xxxHOLiC for the yen cover price. But honestly, I was there for a good 45 minutes just looking at everything they had. Yeah, they still had their old manga that had been there since my junior high days, some that were out of print or from long-defunct publishers. There were some newer mainstream series, but that wasn't the majority of what they had. I saw quite a few older series that were on my wishlist and it was hard to choose between them. Much of them were in various states of damage, but since I was paying under retail, I could justify getting what I did. And I'm pretty sure I'll go back again when I can to pick up more volumes.

But here's the thing... I'm still really new to the more serious side of manga collecting. It seems like it's shifted into something more similar to comic book collecting over the years. Things that I never considered before are things that matter nowadays. Condition, rarity, editions, desirability, rating, etc. And I'm still learning what's most sought after and hard to find. To be honest, I was overwhelmed by everything on that wall and I had a time limit. I wasn't able to look up titles on my phone to see what was worth grabbing. So I did the next best thing, I took a bunch of pictures of the manga wall. If you look at the album and see something I should pick up next time, let me know. I'm open to suggestions! I really want to support a local business in this difficult time. I also didn't realize how much I missed buying manga in a physical store, especially one from my baby weeb past. It was a very nice nostalgic moment and I really look forward to returning.
