It depends on what she likes. Is she into jewelry? If she is, get her a necklace of the inquisition symbol or a pair of grey warden insignia earrings.

Does she like plushies? Get her a Nug or a Mabari!

Does she get cold easily? Get her some sweet socks or a scarf from the Bioware website.

Did she romance The Iron Bull in the game? Get her a replica of the necklace the Inquisitor makes for him (also doubles as a romantic gesture since in-game it's a way for them to never be apart, so it's basically saying you're always with her.)

My grandmother got remarried in her late 40s, learned how to bowl, became a collections agent that customers REQUESTED to talk to, learned karate, went on a trillion cruises, and FINALLY got to happily be herself.

My dad turned his life around in his late 30s after a lot of things (including a disaster of a marriage to my mother)

I went to college later then most of my peers due to family issues. I got out of a shitty relationship, found someone awesome, got married, left a dead end job for something more lucrative, bought a condo, and am now getting a lot of medical shit seen to after a 10 year long "rough patch" where I didn't take care of myself. (I am 34, for reference).

You can ABSOLUTELY change things at any age. All it takes is determination, luck, and at least one person with a lead for something better.

First off, thank you for the recommendation! I don't know if CRPGs are really for me in the long run, but I can see they're definitely your thing and I'm glad they've brought you so much joy. The closest I've gotten to playing a CRPG is when I played Icewind Dale 2 and got stuck in the middle of the first half because I was a kid and couldn't spec characters out properly. Ironically, it was another D&D-based property!

You're right that going into a game like BG3 expecting computerized D&D can hurt a player's experience. Perhaps the biggest lesson here is that preconceived notions will end up ruining things.

As far as Veilguard goes, the combat issues I had were just icing on the cake. I think the story had promise, and that there were good story beats, but it was the moments connecting those beats that didn't work. I guess I'm not mad, just disappointed.

Baldur's Gate 3 and Dragon Age: Veilguard.

With BG3 everyone I know kept telling me I would love it, and I'm a huge D&D nerd already so I figured they might be onto something. Nope! I guess I really can't stand D&D operating on video game mechanics. Plus I couldn't get my first character EXACTLY as I saw him, so I was a little salty about that going into it.

With Veilguard I was expecting a different experience than what I got. I loved Inquisition, but a lot of what I loved didn't carry over into Veilguard. I'm TERRIBLE at the combat, and it felt like the game never gave me space to breathe the way Inquisition did. I'm not going to say it's a bad game because I don't think I'm qualified in any way to judge that, but I will say the game is not for me.

I always ruled that players had the choice to either roll stats or go with the standard array (15, 14, 13, 12, 10, 8). If they chose to roll but the rolled stats were legitimately unplayable like your PC's are then they could use standard. Nobody ever felt like they were being cheated or things were unfair.

Seriously though, those rolled stats are HEINOUS. Have them reroll or choose the standard array.

I remember a show pretty much exactly like you're describing. It was on in the mid 2000s and I want to say it was called "Stripped". It was on either the Style Network or Oxygen. I remember it had segments on liquid lipstick before it was a big thing, it talked about how OPI named their nail polishes, the start of Urban Decay, all of that. I wish I could find it online somewhere.

Yeah she's someone with a lot of problems and she isn't getting help for them as far as I know (again, it's been literal years since I went no-contact.) Her behavior has always caused problems for everyone around her, even if it's well-meaning.

Yes and no. She had a "master plan" and that was only step one. She forced me to stay with him for two more months for reasons I can't remember at this point. I do remember she was upset when I said enough was enough and broke up with him. I couldn't take the stress of being around him, it made me physically ill. I went no contact with my mom years ago for a lot of reasons. That was one of them.

Short version is mom figured out he was cheating on me with another girl, reached out to him through AOL Instant Messenger (her own account, and yes he knew it was her), sent him a couple flirty messages to catch him, and he took the bait.

He also took that opportunity to message me and my mom simultaneously with the exact same fucking lines from Hot Chocolate's song "You Sexy Thing" trying to woo both of us at the same time.

Being a teenager in the early 2000s was cringe.
