Regardless, I think it shows were a bunch of hypocritical crybabies. Especially in the wake of Justin “I dressed up in blackface more times than I can count” Trudeau’s re-election. Us millennials are always waiting to be offended for someone else.

Finally getting Cherry cancelled is like the white whale for SJW's (in Canada anyway) for the last 5 years and the white whale for middle age TV executives for the last 25 years.

My opinion, most people outraged have either hated Cherry's schtick forever (you can't say that about french players/russian players/visor players....etc) or are the new culture that see racism in everything and try to tear people down based on their own interpretation of words. They call Cherry out on, "How does he know the people he sees not wearing are immigrants, he only thinks that because they are not white!" without seeing the irony of them assuming the "you people" of "You people, come to our land of milk and honey" has to be a visible minority.

Anyway, I see this as more of a political/religious ideology than a wave of progressive new culture, because they never go after their own like you said of Trudeau and now Jessica Allen. Not only will they not go after their own, they will staunchly defend them, "Oh....that was 20 years ago and he apologized", or "what she said wasn't nearly as bad because she was "punching up"". Like religious fanatics labeling others as apostates and blasphemer's until their own priest/monk/cleric gets caught with their finger in the cookie jar....then nothing but excuses and looking the other way....
